I desperately would love to see this play again; it has stayed with me since I saw it in 2019 and I continue to come back to it when I want to be reminded about how powerful comedy can be in revealing deep and resonant truths. I've never laughed and cried simultaneously in the theater like at this play. I adore it and I'll never look at my lunches (or being a public defender) the same way.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Lunch Bunch

Hilarious play about a group of public defenders who are desperately fighting impossible battles against a cruel system while obsessing about lunch in the most wonderful ways! I highly recommend this for the theatrical use of language, brilliantly created characters and very distinct rhythms and scene dynamics that make this such a joyful show.

  • Daniel Krane: Lunch Bunch

One of the funniest plays I've ever seen. Delightfully specific language, a wonderfully kooky workplace environment, coupled with a sly jab at the messed up legal system we have by way of the world's most intense lunch group. Talk about a group of people eating their feelings.

  • Shaun Leisher: Lunch Bunch

This is such a unique take on the workplace comedy that perfectly captures how one must find joy in seemingly little things to survive a soul sucking job. The dialogue and cast of characters are delightful.
Einspanier includes the perfect blend of existential dread and absurd comedy that will make you laugh at the foreignness and cry in recognition.

  • Jonathan O'Neill: Lunch Bunch

A funny and haunting drama about seven attorneys whose weekday foodie club becomes a kind of mythic quest for agency. Einspanier conjures these ridiculous foods which seem beautiful and grotesque against the bleak reality of public defense. Her language is so rich — the words betray the ache in each character, whether they’re struggling with the court system or staring up from the social limbo of Whole-30. From course to course, and trial to trial, LUNCH BUNCH is a beautifully crafted look at the tribulations of NYC’s unsung heroes. It deserves your attention (and many further productions)!

I adore Einspanier's body of work, but this is truly a standout amongst their accomplished, delectable creations. The rhythm and pacing launch you right into this vividly constructed world inhabited by a beautifully drawn ensemble. The language throughout is as delicious as the descriptions of the food consumed by the characters. And the play's many plot threads weave together in expertly crafted fashion for a final scene that is both sweet and satisfying.
