As a lover of Little Women, I had exceptionally high hopes for this play. Hoke managed to blow my expectations out of the water with a writing style that lends itself perfectly to such a nostalgic story. Extra kudos for such a perfect ending, wrapping everything up so nicely even when the audience is wiping tears away. As a playwright, I hope to write something that makes the audience feel the way I feel after reading this… and as an actress, I want to play every part in the show!! Wonderful script, highly recommend!!

With wit, heart, humor and a great depth of understanding for Alcott's characters, Donna Hoke has created an original, exciting and emotionally powerful contemporary imagining of Little Women. There are some wonderfully theatrical moments, and some heart wrenching emotional ones... a fantastic play that will resonate with audiences.

If you love Little Women, you will love pouring over this strong, contemporary adaptation. The essence of the characters is so spot on, even as they're brought into the 21st century! Something as simple as articulating the more oblique facets of their identities (queerness! mental illness!) does so much to help these characters feel three-dimensional and relatable. This adaptation features so many of the moments you love and expect, but peppers in cellphones and booze and the climate crisis in all of these small, surprising ways! Plus, it's full of fabulous roles for women and gorgeous moments of theatricality!

A marvelous re-imagining of this classic for today! Thank you Donna Hoke for remaking Little Women so that it is exactly the same and completely new! This will be a wonderful addition to any theatre's holiday family offering, and I am sure it will get done often!

I'm so glad I gave this a read! Donna breaths oh so refreshing fresh air into Little Women. Her script is cleverly crafted and updated to appeal to fans of the story, old and new. It's clear in the details how much she cares for her characters, making it so easy for us to care deeply too.

This play is so delightful - the adaptation is clever, playful, and layers in some special theater magic, and you've gotta love all those great roles for women. Perfect for community and educational theaters, this will "put butts in seats" but also let you do something original and important. Check it out!

I was lucky enough to see a reading of this. You don't have to know anything about Little Women to be thoroughly absorbed in Ms. Hoke's writing and the lives of these four sisters. It's a true testament to both Ms. Hoke and Ms. Alcott that these timeless characters can be adapted into something so timely and resonant for modern day. Those who are familiar with the book will doubly enjoy seeing how brilliantly Ms. Hoke takes the essentials of each woman at their core being and weaves it into a present-day story. I can't wait to see this onstage.

Confession: I've never read Little Women. However, after reading Donna's adaptation, I intend to. What you get here is a story that lays claim to being the play chart the decay of the nuclear family model in the 21st century. It has comedic and dramatic moments aplenty, it charts the paths that sisters take in the pursuit of happiness and, best yet, not a single character is without depth. You feel for every character and find yourself rooting for all of them, even when they are opposed. 100-words aren't enough to express how I feel about this play. Read now!

This is an absolutely delightful modern take on an old classic. Hoke brings Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy into our time with nuance and care. There is a delicate balance between sisterly affection and sibling rivalry with their quick banter that makes you get to know them from the earliest pages in the script. Their growth into adulthood has some surprises that I believe Alcott would love. The play contains rich, detailed roles for many women as well as two meaty roles for the men. I loved getting reacquainted with these little women again. Read it. Better still, produce it.

I loved the Little Women series when I was a kid, and Hoke does a terrific job bringing the March women to the Now. Snappy and relatable, this family feels as universally-accessible as the source material, but with a surprising freshness and modernity. Hoke's beautiful structure, compelling characters and intriguing updates will make this an instant classic for fans of the books, like me, and newcomers alike. All hail a play for mostly women! With meaty, multi-dimensional roles for two oft-neglected age groups onstage: Teens and women over 40. Theaters should give this play a look - it's a gem!
