Love Bird

Nigel, the sole inhabitant of a small island, falls in love with someone he made out of trash. As storms and trash increase, a strange visitor forces Nigel choose between who he was and who he could be. Love Bird is about loneliness, queerness, the meaning of devotion in a single-use society, and the mystery of connection in a messy world.

This play is the epitome of quirky, contemporary, and refreshing. It encompasses sustainability and flexibility within its structural needs (set, cast size, etc), while providing content that is full to bursting with heart and soul. I have known this play for several years now, and it never fails to charm the pants off of me and everyone else. We fall in love with the innocence, vulnerability, and stubborn determination of both characters. At once a celebration of nature and nurture, Love Bird is simple and wistfully delightful.

I saw LOVE BIRD at the University of Iowa, and I can't wait to see it again. It's a wonderful vehicle for two actors to play in, full of tenderness and humor and vulnerability. It's a rom-com, a meditation on climate change, and farce all in one. A wonderful ride!

This play made me feel full of possibilities. It's a tender, fantastical, love song of hope. The script has delicately crafted a safety net for the two actors to explore true surprise and joy. You will marvel at its intricate waltz and you will laugh. You will laugh a lot. It's a rare night in the theater where you feel so at ease to be taken on a ride of tenderness. The play delivers.

NIGEL - a grand, particular, and romantic bird who knows no chill.
NORMAN - a bird from another island, more polished than Nigel, with a distinct affection for trash.
