The Down-Low Dating Show works excellently well as a comedy sketch, playing with the form and commenting on gay (and DL) desire dynamics in a tight, concise package. I could see a cast having a lot of fun bringing these characters to life, and Steve gives each contestant something fun to work with.

This little quickie of a play takes the game-show premise to new heights (or lows?!). Pay close attention to what the characters are doing even they're not speaking--Steven G. Martin layers satire on satire to skewer assumptions about desire. I laughed out loud.

Such a funny premise and well-executed. The title alone was enough to get me to select it for a read. Clever, great setup and exposes some of the foibles of marriage and sex. For a short play, it was a packed package, pardon the expression...

  • Dick Overtron
Main contestant on "The Down-Low Dating Show," a married man who wants M2M sex. He wears a flimsy disguise, perhaps a fake moustache or a hat with sunglasses – anything that can be easily removed. He's wary, he's judgmental, he's also horny.
    Character Gender Identity
    Male
  • Bachelor 3 - Jerz Watson
One of the bachelors on "The Down-Low Dating Show," single and gay. Dressed like, and is, an NFL super fan. He's loud, tough, and gritty. He's walking testosterone, all-male and no one suspects he likes cock. Ends up being chosen by Nick, but turns him down because he wants more than just easy sex.

  • Bachelor 2 - Wally Baker
One of the bachelors on "The Down-Low Dating Show," single and gay. Dressed like, and is, a white collar professional guy. He likes to hang out with friends, grab a beer, probably enjoys dancing and the arts more than the average straight guy, but he could "pass" if he wanted, which he doesn't. Romantic.

  • Bachelor 1 - Trey LaFollette
One of the bachelors on "The Down-Low Dating Show," single and gay. Effeminate and entirely fine with it. Powerful persona, doesn't take shit from anyone. Trey is probably the personification of a stereotypical gay guy. Nattily dressed, stylishly and colorfully. Romantic, too.
