HILARY BLUESTEIN-LYONS’ play has two introverts finding their true connection through acting. ‘A Play Within A Play Within A Play” is a sweet, romantic piece, and I believe it would be thoroughly enjoyed by audiences.

Layers! This is a fun piece, very “meta” in idea and structure and that’s what draws you in and works for the humor. Are they acting? Or “ACTING?” Or something else entirely? The play rolls along with quick dialogue and a frolicking feel. Sweet and emotionally varied, “A Play Within a Play Within a Play” is a delight.

A delightful nesting doll of a play in which a couple rehearses a play about a couple rehearsing a play, and Hillary Bluestein-Lyons expertly pulls the layers apart, asking existential questions about what is and what is not.

It is difficult to write a meta-play-within-a play without the hand of the playwright coming through a too clearly or being a bit too twee but Hilary Bluestein-Lyons manages to pull it off--twice! The play is well-paced and there are just enough hints so we are taken in by the scenario at first but soon are carried along to the sweet, delectable ending.

I saw this charming little gem tonight at Secret Theatre’s One Act Festival. A delightfully meta play-within-a-play-within-a play, there are laughs galore, a breezy sexual tension that heightens the comedy, and a happy ending for all concerned — including the audience. Wonderfully entertaining.

Ten minute plays are hard. So hard that I usually feel like they went on too long...cuz they're bad. This is not that play. I wanted more. Not because it wasn't complete or finished, but because these characters are so rich and specific and their circumstance so wonderfully inviting that I just wanted more. This is a great play for ANY audience who just wants an enjoyable, well structured story.

A delightful whirlwind of quirkiness and meta-romance, this play would be a great selection for any 10-minute festival or publication - good for all ages, schools, etc. The audience enjoys a blend of figuring out the scenario and laughing at the antics and awkwardness of the two endearing characters.
