Gonzalez explores layers of time, through these two deeply-felt characters, whose time is no longer theirs to determine. In a taut ten minutes, Gonzalez plumbs our history, unpacking mass incarceration, economics, systems of oppression, and grounding that conversation with humor, warmth and the ache of missing the moments, minutes, hours and lifetimes. A beautiful, masterful work.

    A great short play about time, power dynamics, love, and life. Two inmates discuss the likelihood of time existing, or if it's just another form of control. Both sides of the debate are given strong arguments, which had me questioning reality like all good philosophy plays do. THE INVENTION OF TIME also has two great characters for actors to dig into. I think it would be a great addition to an evening of shorts.

Franky Gonzalez has written a brilliantly fascinating conversation between two inmates regarding the concept of time, the significance of hope, and the rules of society that'll have you thinking long after you read "End of Play." If time exists, use some of it to read this and then add "Even Flowers Bloom in Hell, Sometimes" to your NPX Reading List. I just did.
