The characters are richly drawn and clearly indicate that we still have a long way to go before sexes are equal in every respect. The juxtaposition of the two women's lives is cleverly drawn and interesting.

    I saw a reading of this play as part of the Ethel Woolson series (WTP) and performed at The Essential Theatre in 2019. It brings a historical perspective to the #METOO movement, by presenting the story of Artemisia Gentileschi, a woman in Renaissance Italy who brought rape charges against her instructor at a time when women had little or no authority apart from their families. The play contrasts this with a modern story of sexual harassment and retaliation to demonstrate that not much has changed in four hundred years. It's a gripping historical drama that's as fresh as today's headlines.

    I felt punched in the chest by this play in the best possible way. SLAYING HOLOFERNES is an empathetic yet unflinching look at the many different (and similar) faces of an extremely long-standing problem—sexual harassment/assault, and the headache that is trying to get justice in the aftermath. Dynamic, intense, and blunt without losing complexity, full of haunting imagery, and spearheaded by two female leads that it’s impossible not to root for. I sincerely hope that this play gets produced as soon as possible—I really do think we’ll all be better off for it.
