Paul Donnelly has written a heartfelt play that captures the bittersweet layers of acceptance, both of yourself and of others. As trauma (physical and emotional) becomes internalized, it affects the ways in which we see the world and ourselves. Donnelly plays on this theme beautifully, expanding the concept of 'family' and demonstrating that the most important acceptance comes from within.

A bittersweet story, and a situation that probably is true for too many people.

Bravo to Donnelly for showing different relationships -- with society, family, romantic partners, and self -- and how they may or may not evolve over time.

Donnelly's play Tis True, Ma shows us just how much we still have to fight and make the world a better and safer place for everyone. So much has changed in the past 50 years for gay rights and lives, but the sad fact is that there's so many people like Mrs. O'Connor who are out there who need to change and sadly not all of them are 92 years old. The poetry of Donnelly's piece is the emotions it pulls from anger and frustration to love and hope and those I feel will be stronger in the end

I'm honored to include this play in BUA Takes 10: Stonewall Edition at Buffalo United Artists. It's reflection on changing times and cultures, with the Stonewall monument as backdrop, is the perfect transition into modern day and works beautifully within our evening. Thank you!
