  • Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn: Hunting BigFoot

This is such a great ensemble piece about storytelling. Bigfoot is all of us because ingesting and digesting stories is what keeps the world going. The framing of the writer's room, a stressful room of blankness, is a great device as it gets filled with all of the ideas that have inspired America and American stories through time. The bits and pieces of true and false history are also very American since the beginning. This story tells so much and allows many actors to be showcased in a fun way.

BigFoot is possibly the greatest American myth. A writer's room...is a close second. Giacopasi has hilariously interwoven these two things to create a really special play - a witty, surprising, heartfelt look into where our stories come from, who tells them, and how those stories shape our sense of the American legend. With pop-ups from some of your favorite historical figures, Giacopasi ultimately asks us to interrogate the gatekeepers of our myths, the accessibility of our shared national history, and how that ultimately effects representation in our media.

Very witty - a fanciful flight into the myth of Big Foot. On a more serious note, myth itself seeks definition here, and historical facts are props for this theme. I enjoyed the critique of modern media makers, which took the form of the two narrators. Giacopasi approaches the topic of myth with lenses as unclear as those in which we see Big Foot, and finally arrives at a clear picture of America's character.

I absolutely adore this play. Wildly absurd, hilarious, and sophisticated, this play is a radical exploration of the people, myths, tales, and legends that have defined and shaped America since from its birth. Incredibly imaginative, the play asks big questions about identity and ownership and how truth is shaped by story-telling. Can't wait to see this produced!

American myth making at its best and most delightful. Giacopasi looks deep into the heart of the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and finds the narratives that unite us.
She draws her characters with great care and whimsy, seamlessly integrating this play with their historic timelines and how they’re remembered in our collective American imagination. Giacopasi is my all time favorite underknown playwright! And this is a wonderful play!

Theresa's play is a hilarious representation of just how we look at everything today in a TV writer’s room culture which extends past, well, the writer’s room to all our lives as cultural consumers: we simply sacrifice accuracy for entertainment. We had/have many BigFoots in our history: John Muir. Ken Burns. P.T. Barnum. Dorothy Parker. Josephine Baker. Garbo. They’re all there. This delightfully surprising, cool, dry, witty comedy is about the myths of America. And admirably and irreverently remind us there is only one myth: America itself. Bravo!
