Ohhhhhhhh, what a treat. I wound up reading this at home alone, in the pitch black dark by candlelight the evening following a tornado. YUP YUP YUP YUP YUP. The title is smart and easy to market, the culture (brujas, Paleras, and Espiritismo) is elegantly represented, it's sexy and fresh, the subplots are easy to follow, the pay off is divine, there’s a final jump scare, it’s got family, it’s got romance, it’s got humor - hurry, hurry, hurry, and produce this now!

This script immediately pulled me in. Both exciting and realistic, it offers a brilliant theatre playground for actors and designers alike.

Fernandez has created a story that’s fun and spooky but also contains real pathos as well as characters that you will fall in love with and relate to. This script offers so many great opportunities for both actors and designers to play and experiment. This is a play I’d love to experience live!

An amazing play with beautifully written characters. Fernandez spins the dialogue into a wonderful story about loss, generational trauma, and learning to accept what we cannot change. "A Skeptic and a Bruja" also has plenty of opportunities for designers to give it their all and create horrifying 'theatre magic'. This play is sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, I hope it gets produced over and over again!

With a Scariest Places On Earth BnB Edition by way of 80's off-kilter Saturday morning kids show energy, hilarious and hard hitting dialogue (Remy's monologue!), and a diverse cast of fully realized complex characters exorcising issues of generational trauma, grief, and spirituality - "A Skeptic and a Bruja" jump scares off the page in leaps and bounds.

Perfect play for ehSpooky (and any other spiritual) season! I read this alone, in an AirBnb, in the woods, in the dark, during the “Witching Hour” (highly recommend). Suspense mixed with humor that’ll have you worried one moment and chuckling the next. Embarking on this journey with these valiant women of color invites us to have a new perspective on the worlds or dimensions that are usually hidden from us, that only the gifted can see. “A Skeptic and a Bruja” is a heart racing journey about family, friendship, the spiritual world, and working together to find peace.

Fernandez displays a mastery of pace and tension in this ridiculously tight piece that straddles the line between our world and the hereafter. Finely crafted characters and grounded dialogue allow the gradual flourishes of paranormal pandemonium to hit all the harder as all hell breaks loose at Laurie house. This play deserves to be produced to its full potential; a feast of theatricality on all fronts.

I couldn't stop reading as soon as I started. The horror and suspense are paced so well throughout. Great characters, fascinating plot and more than quite a few scares, both on the page and thinking it over again later.

A great take on the supernatural with a culturally relevant message. I absolutely love to see women's voices amplified in the horror/supernatural genre! I really enjoyed it.

This play is TRULY frightening. Though set as a horror story, do not be fooled. This is actually a compelling philosophical debate about the effects of colonization on indigenous & mestizaje spirituality and a complex study of our complicity in victim blaming. And yes... it's also scary as f**k!!!! If I was terrified in a reading, I can only imagine how scary this play will become with music, lights, and sound. I highly recommend.
