Incredibly smart take on Shakespeare. Matt uses his source material to explore essential contemporary questions in an entertaining and thought-provoking way.

SO GLAD I had the chance to see a reading of this astounding play - Matt's play is unflinching in its honesty, deeply moving and funny. Most impressive is his ability to juggle a period piece with Shakespearean references and still be able to make it feel as fresh and current as anything set in modern day. I encourage theaters to produce this play because it's the one we need now.

  • Andrew Rincon: The Venetians

Barbot created a clever, smart, funny, and powerful piece of theatre that turns the idea of what an "adaption" can/must be on it's head. His dialogue moves like bullets, yet the big questions he is grappling with in this play never seem to be too much or too heady. He makes us examine with humor (and fear) the consequences of misrepresenting the marginalized, and not allowing those people to tell their own stories. This play is fire!

Had the wonderful experience of seeing an early reading of this play. Barbot is like a Latinx Tom Stoppard, but more fun. His work is erudite and inviting, fast paced yet full of context in each scene. He has crafted here one of my favorite Shakespearean adaptation, one I can't wait to see on stage one day.
