  • Michele Clarke: 3 Characters Figure It Out

No one escapes unscathed in this delightfully clever four-hander that turns on hilarious frustration. So much range for a director as well as the actors -- anything from playing it straight to going all the way over the top. Lots of fun.

This was one of the best student-directed plays I've seen in my career. The script is so well crafted and funny and leaves so much room for a cast and director to make it their own.

Such a fun piece! Perfectly structured as a ten-minute play and captures both the joy and struggles of playwriting. A highlight of our student-directed ten minute play festival.

  • Lee R. Lawing: 3 Characters Figure It Out

Great absurdist piece of theater and funny as hell. McLachlan pulls together so much in this play about reality vs. fantasy, making your own way or staying the path, and questioning everything or accepting of everything that life throws at you. And all of this around a landmine which was just brilliant.

  • Cam Torres: 3 Characters Figure It Out

A very fun, thoughtful piece of meta theater that highlights the importance of purpose in the choices we make as writers/storytellers. McLachlan does an extremely good job at making each character unique despite them all nearly having the same name. Would make a great addition to any short play festival!

I loved this play. Meta plays, to me, are always interesting and using stage directions as the foil was clever. Right length, interesting twists. Overall, very entertaining.

Meta plays can be tricky to pull off well, but this one charmed me. I loved the reactions of the characters each time they learned what they had to do next, and the ridiculous ways the play heightened. Clever and fun!

A delightful, lightning-quick meta play where actors are unable to move without permission from the stage directions, which become increasingly outlandish, until the actors rebel against them. Fast, fun, and knowing.

Incredibly meta. Very fast and fluid. The functions great as a short one-act, and honestly if the writer wanted to, they could expand the show. Fun read, and would absolutely be a fun watch. This is the type of show I think would see great success in a college Blackbox.
