We've probably all seen or even written plays wherein two chairs represent a car onstage. Here the two chairs are occupied by Allen the over-detailed trip planner and Mary his longsuffering wife. In due course they are joined by four additional people. Watching the six of them acting out stuffing themselves into the pretend car promises much hilarity. And then comes the twist concerning what is really happening on this "road trip" and where this ersatz car really is. And finally pomposity gets its comeuppance in a satisfying conclusion. All in ten delightful minutes. Great work.

What a clever comedic premise! A whirlwind of a script with a very funny ending! Published in THE BEST TEN-MINUTE PLAYS 2023!

The old school map isn't all that's revealed to be not quite what it seems in this loopy farce. Every escalation in the absurdity brought new waves of laughter. That Mary ultimately takes charge is the perfect button.

PROBST'S play "Road Trip" is a hilarious, fun, and yet somewhat dawning look at what it means to be a huge family going on a road trip, and truly questions the facts of life behind the wheel - the good and the bad.

A farce at its finest. Almost reminded me of Anne Washburn's Post-Apocalyptic Play...in the sense of the comedy. A lovely piece for any family to enjoy! Well done. Highly recommended!

    Produce this, please!

Hilarious! What starts as the familiar trope of a controlling husband working on his wife's last nerve soon descends--ascends?--into a wonderfully absurd farce that heightens as other characters are brought on and attempt to jam themselves into a sort of clown car simply represented on stage by two chairs. Farce rarely reads as well as it plays, but the performance in my imagination had me chuckling, then laughing out loud, then cheering at the perfect ending. Fortunate indeed the performers who get to play it live and the audience who get to experience it. Brava!

A neat variation on the weary wife having to put up with an ‘old school’ know-all of a husband. The characters are introduced in a witty and concise way so we understand immediately their place in this family’s journey. Full of pace with a cheeky pay off, this is about a woman finding her own voice and freedom - all within the confines of her own living room!

What a fun journey this play turned out to be. I love the fact that no one really questions the validity of the situation. Everyone just, for want of a better term, goes along for the ride. Jan Probst gives us a wonderfully weird setup and the characters join in on the fun. You know what this is? The perfect staycation!

With archly absurd language and situations, Jan Probst keeps ratcheting up the hilarity while at the same time never losing sight of the troubled relationship at the center of this very funny, yet ultimately touching little gem. Go Mary!!!

I love this family and all their quirkiness! Such fun! Jan Probst created five oddball characters and a ton of opportunity for some slapstick physical comedy. I'd love to see this on stage!
