There’s so much going on in this brief but brilliant homage to rocker Warren Zevon. As Zevon had his share of demons, so too Charles Scott Jones’s protagonist, Wesley. And his conversation with the aptly named Deliria creates enough doubt in our own minds as to what is real. A fascinating piece with so much depth for directors and actors to explore.

Charles Scott Jones has written a splendid play that questions the limits of reality. I do love plays like this. I also sense that despite the light above surface dialogue a director could take this piece and really drag it through darkest of dark sides. Jones keeps you guessing all the way to the end and ambiguously leaves it up to audience to decide. Excellent!

Bizarre in all the best ways, "Accidentally Unlike a Monster" takes us to an almost dreamlike state. This piece is trippy yet deep and feeling. Well done!

Take arguably the most famous opening line from one of the most famous songs, throw in a depressed rock star along with a groupie/werewolf and you have another excellent CSJ play!
Let's hope he recieves the help he needs and doesn't become a hairy headed gent who runs amok in Kent.....

I love the way this story is framed. A rock star confronting his demons through the personification of a song. It's almost like a memory, but with the twisted oddity of a dream. Nothing is as it seems. I love the line "It's hard to be somebody." Absolutely poetic. And cool as hell!

Oh My GOD! A Warren Zevon inspired play! I never would have thought of it. I LOVED all the sly and not-so-sly references sprinkled throughout. One of our greatest songwriters gets a play about him that not once mentions him, but I loved it all! I'm going to listen to some Transverse City today. C.S.Jones, you've made me an excitable boy!

All artists are probably their own worst critic and Scott Jones play gives us one such artist hitting a wall with anxiety and depression and alcoholism where he confronts his inner demons and has a "come to jesus" moment of realizing what he's done and how far he's gone with it and has now ended up trapped in his nightmare of regret.

ACCIDENTIALLY UNLIKE A MONSTER moves the way the songs it is based on feel. Ah-hoo! A hazy hotel room, a chance encounter, and a moment of introspection, Charles Scott Jones offers a glimpse into the messy life our rock star protagonist. This play would be fun to see staged!

A thoroughly engaging short play with a gripping premise and compelling characters. Funny with a lot of effective drama. This would be perfect for short play festivals. Well done!
