Recommendations of CUBIST RODEO CLOWNING

  • Arianna Rose: CUBIST RODEO CLOWNING

I love absurdist plays, and if it's got a heap of physical comedy, even better. Cubist Rodeo Clowning checks all the boxes and then some. A terrific twist ending and last line, really unique characters, and yet a relatable premise for many. I loved the vacuum monologue. Playwright Charles Scott Jones has an original mind that writes truly unique, memorable plays, and we're all the better for it. Giddy-AP!

This short play will keep you on your toes! It flows along on a river of absurdity and ends with the perfect button. I particularly loved Briar's mini-monologue praising the joys to be found in vacuuming. This short is a ton of fun!

  • Lee R. Lawing: CUBIST RODEO CLOWNING

There can never be too much absurdism in your life and this play fits nicely into that side of life and it's laugh out loud funny which is always a very big plus. Charles Scott Jones gives us a masterful play that is crafted beyond just the framework that he's working in and gives us a study of the human condition as any good play should.

  • Donald E. Baker: CUBIST RODEO CLOWNING

Cubist art looks at things every which way all at the same time but somehow it makes sense. Jones has achieved the same thing here. The play is both serious and funny--both at the same time--and the characters are delightfully quirky and memorable. Producers looking to include something deliciously different in their next festival of short plays should give this work serious consideration.

How do you recommend a play when the tagline does it perfectly! This is a fun short play, the relationship and banter between these three is quirky and hilarious. A great piece of CSJ absurdism!
Oh and.... water beds make me feel seasick, too....

This wonderful short play is like a three-way tennis game. the words are balls being endlessly lobbed between the three players. We are the net watching the flights of delightful non-sequiturs. The final score is: love-plus?

  • Adam Richter: CUBIST RODEO CLOWNING

The language and movement in this gem of a short play are so much fun to read. They'd be an even bigger joy on the stage. Charles Scott Jones' short play is a wonderfully comic piece about the struggle to move on after a breakup, especially when the person responsible for the breakup won't leave the room. Fantastic!

Enormous fun to be had in this ten minute play perfect for any festival. From the rodeo-clowning on a suitcase instead of a steed to the marvelous dialogue, Charles Scott Jones solves a number of dramaturgical issues in this short hilarious play. The characters are well-drawn and specific. They all want something, and every role is a good one to play. A director would have a blast with this!
