As a fur brother, I’ve never actually dealt with puppies, only bigger dogs, but I’ve definitely had my share of “wet spots” and other things.

Priskorn’s play “Bronte’s Mom” is a marvelous juxtaposition between what it means to be there for others (animals too) and for yourself. This lovely piece would be fun to produce as it is so relatable in everyday life. Read. Produce. Repeat. Well done!

Being guilty as a fur dad myself I can totally relate to this couple and l their love for Bronte, even if she has destroyed an expensive shoe! This is a sweet two hander with a sadness behind it, but the love they have for each other (and Bronte of course!) is real and beautiful. Nice!

  • Paul Donnelly: Bronte's Mom

A real depth of feeling runs under the comic veneer of this charming play. That's not to say it isn't very funny. A little puppy mishap on their first anniversary leads a couple to deal with undercurrents that left unspoken could have eventually destroyed their relationship. Instead we see their bond movingly affirmed.

JACQUELYN FLOYD-PRISKORN writes some of the most charming plays I have had the pleasure to read. “Bronte’s Mom” is a wonderful short play. Seth and Jayne recognize the joy they receive from Brontë, even in the face of their pet’s unfortunate mishap. There is so much to learn in a marriage, about our spouse and ourselves. Brontë helps this couple in more ways than one. I highly recommend this gem.

This play is funny from the beginning, but the depth of the reveal at the end conveys its emotional power. What a tender and heartwarming look into a couple overcoming a first year of marraige that isn't what they expected, but what they got through together. Bronte may have left a present in her daddy's shoes, but the real gift is the writing in this play!

Wow, lots of deep subtext going on in Bronte's Mom! This is an adorable play about a puppy that ate a shoe, and it's also a play about a couple's first wedding anniversary and how they are coping with change and loss and depression, and it does all this in ten comic minutes! That's a lot of wonderful writing! I hope it is produced well and often!

There is so much to this short play! At first it seems like the story of a couple with a naughty dog, but as the play goes on you realize why this couple owns the dog and your perception of these two characters as individuals and as a unit shifts. It's subtle and surprising, and I love that this play tackles a Big Subject without being too heavy or depressing. People who live through - and continue to grapple with - big, hard things still find reasons to smile, as this play demonstrates perfectly.

This funny, tender duologue is not what it first appears. We're led to believe that we're getting a glimpse into the lives of a struggling millennial couple who have made their dog their everything - the truth is that things are a lot more complicated for this particular pair. The pacing and reveals in the piece are smooth and subtle, and the ending is very well earned! This sweet slice-of-life play will leave you with a sense of hope! Bronte is a very good dog, and this is a very good little play!

Relationships are complex, and only the people involved know the true stories. But even then, sometimes those in a marriage also need to share the (mis)understood stories of their life together. In BRONTE'S MOM, Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn unravels the story of this couple as well as what's gone unsaid. Covering parenthood, marriage, career, and health, this short piece delivers both comedy and drama on one couple's special night.
