This is almost too much fun. Patterson has a field day with the femme fatale of crime noir and takes it where it needs to go. Move over, Hitchcock and Welles, there’s a new writer in town. If any actor wanted to emulate Bogey and Bacall, here’s your chance. A delight for audiences.

I admit I read this hearing my best Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall impressions in my head. That’s how vivid Martha Patterson’s dialogue is. There’s nothing quite like noir to bring out the fatale in femme fatale, and the appropriately named Randy exceeds expectations. This one has it all. Just like Bogey and Bacall.

A hardboiled detective meets a truly fatal femme fatale to surprising effect, The noirish atmosphere, noirish characters, and noirish dialogue add up to a most engaging entertainment.

Martha perfectly captures the feel of old-time murder mystery drama. The dialogue is great. A most fun choice for any festival or could easily be adapted into a radio drama. Well done!

Wow, a femme fatale who actually WAS fatal to the hero! Definitely didn't see that coming. Martha Patterson is her accomplice here, having crafted this noir tale of dames, death and dastardly behavior. She hits all the tropes in just the right way, but still manages to surprise us. I know Humphrey sure was. But now, we need the next chapter! Put Martha back on the case.

It was dark, I was trapped in black and white, I needed a new case like I needed the best whiskey in a bar.
But this bar I stumbled in had a real femme fatale. I had a new case but was I up to this dangerous Dame?

Funny Ten Minute Noir play. I like the fast-paced dialogue.

I'm so happy about the ending! Thank you Martha Patterson for writing a strong and successful female character who does what she wants. A super noir play for your festival's delight!

Randy is a breath of fresh noir air. I can imagine Lauren Bacall offering her best self-actualized attitude without 1940s style femme fatale restrictions and limitations. The dialogue here is sharp and very funny. I would love to see what talented actors and a director would do with this wonderfully entertaining play.

A tart, saucy put-up-or-shut-up noir play, A WOMAN IN NEED is a twist on your typical noir. Martha Patterson knows her characters but only one 'knows' the other. Nice to see a woman in charge, though she is still presumed to be a woman in need. Nicely done.
