  • Neil Radtke: Two Yards of Satan

I saw a reading of this and it was hysterical from the start. I mean, when one of the characters is "Hot Jesus," you know you're in for a fun ride. This is a clever and wacky play that is just a delight. McBurnette-Andronicos has a winner here!

Right from the start, Two Yards of Satan grabs you and doesn't let go! It's funny and just a delight to read and would be so fun to see staged!! I always love seeing figures like Jesus and Satan humanized on the stage. Too bad, I didn't learn about these Biblical figures from reading McBurnette-Andronicos delightful romp, I may still be a religious man.

I feel like typos are an unexploited source of comedy in plays, and Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos is here to rectify the situation. I absolutely love this play. It's hilarious from beginning to end -- smart, seductive, playing on so many tropes and then blasting them out of the water. I want to see this on stage. Badly. Bravo!!!

“Seems like a clunky interjection of social consciousness on the part of the playwright in an otherwise pointless play, but if that’s how she wants to use this platform, ok.”

Ok, Kelly, you owe me a new keyboard for that one.

In a play that gets funnier and funnier with every absurd line and situation, when McBurnette-Andronicos crosses over into navel-gazing meta-theatricality and then tops it with the aforementioned line, she goes from the ridiculously funny to the sublime. And she makes you think, at the very least about proofreading anything and everything before you click “send.”

A ridiculous and super-sacrilegious romp that’s jam-packed with silliness and fun. The wordplay is delightful, the characters revel in the absurdity, and the audience goes on a wild ride full of fast and funny! “You do not spark joy” made me snort. Wonderful!

A funny premise that just becomes more ridiculous and laugh inducing the longer it goes -- and it goes on to the final line.

Almost all of Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos' short comic plays weave in and out of silly situations and actions that make audiences roll in the aisle with laughter. In "Two Yards of Satan," she gifts actors and directors with wordplay, lots of door-slamming action, over-the-top characterizations, and some delicious insight. She also gifts designers with fun opportunities, especially costumes and sound.

"Two Yards of Satan" is a fun farce that would be a joy to produce....

Ah, the problems created by a simple typo... well that, and a few misplaced utterances. A joyous comedy that deserves accolades and applause. Very well done! Brava!
