I enjoy all of Szymkowicz's writing, but this is by far by favorite of their pieces! It is such a creative way to approach grief, love, loss, and shock while still maintaining a sense of balance through a sense of lightness. It is as honest and complex as people are, especially while enduring the grieving process, and is a beautiful read that's profound and meaningful.

Adam Szymkowicz is a favorite of mine. I find comfort in the words he creates. I spent the entire day listening to a sad song with a verse on it from my favorite artist. Apparently, he did this verse the day before he died. There was something special about reading this after listening to that song. This reminds me a lot of high school. I've been to one too many assemblies. This play perfectly captures how grief comes in different forms. I would do anything to see this live or to work on this piece.

As a high school theatre teacher, I always appreciate Szymkowicz's approach to teen characters and dialogue and this play is no exception. The loss of a student named Julie prompts a kaleidoscope of emotions and responses from the student body. Memories (some funny, some heartbreakingly mundane, some touching and poignant) are shared as well as reflections on her death and how it impacts the larger community as well. It's as honest a portrayal of the many, many shades of grief as I've read in a long time. Beautiful work!
