What a powerful play! Having stage managed and watched it in the BTM it was one of the stand outs. Allie deals with grief and AI. The idea of getting closure after death, a mother searching for an opportunity to apologize to the daughter she blames herself for the death of. Powerful. And a great opportunity for clever staging!

Just saw this at the Boston Theater Marathon, and this script really knocked me out. Carefully constructed, pushing not too far ahead from where we are now technologically (and very simple to stage), it's a moving look at the lengths we'll go for emotional closure after trauma. Really terrific piece.

I had the opportunity to view this play as part of the Boston Theater Marathon XXIV. It's such a warm sci-fi piece that makes me long for actual technology with the capabilities to reconnect with loved ones who are no longer with us to get the closure we often (and sometimes desperately) need.

I should probably say first that sci fi is not at all my genre, but I loved this piece, first for avoiding a lot of the cliches of the genre and even more importantly putting us in a world with people who felt real and fully developed. The story was lovely and the ending rich with possibility, which I'll be thinking about for a while.

At the core of grief, on the most basic level, lives the pain of not being able to see someone again - the agony of absence. In this play, Grant MacDermott imagines a future in which holograms and algorithms make a final goodbye possible. Most poignant for me was the demonstration of "watcher mode," in which a grieving mother got to step back and observe her deceased daughter existing in quiet solitude. This emotional piece ends with a heartwrenching reversal that speaks to the universal pain of grief and the cleansing power of forgiveness. It's a wonderful cathartic read.

This 10 minute play uses a sci-fi concept as an exploration of grief and healing. It's straight fire and everything I want in a sci-fi stage piece.

A fascinating and revealing look at a possible near future and the use of technology in grief.
