Urgent and Brechtian, Caridad has a magic touch of putting politics on stage while coupling it with joy. Chelsea & Ivanka had been on my list for quite a while--for the title alone. It's class, it's climate change, it's criticism of the most difficult problems and questions that face us in this moment. It's urgency cannot be overstated. Minimal stage and design directions make this an expansive playground for those brave enough to take it on.

Chelsea & Ivanka is a dream-vehicle for actors, directors, and production teams who are seeking to push the boundaries in their artistic work -- the script (generously, intentionally) offers collaborators gobs of room for innovation, invention and the boundless experimentation. Sky's the limit with this one.

I was completely surprised by this wonderful play! At its heart, the play captures the emergence and disintegration of an always doomed friendship of two women cultivated by a consumerist culture spiraling toward fascism. It reveals at once the playful, but guarded, lightheartedness of a friendship and the deep historical consequences of political power and celebrity in an age of memory loss and erasure.
