Another wonderful play to see at its Alleyway showcasing! Myers' narrative is a gripping realization, that wonderfully makes everyone feel suspicious throughout Amitra's arc. A play about uncovering the past, with such a delightful question of what we leave behind, and the promises we make on the edges of the mainland. Truly a winner!

This play is a riveting mystery with plenty of twists and turns and a beautifully theatrical setting. The story looks at the power of memory and the tricks it can play on us. With richly drawn characters and vivid world-building, this play deserves every accolade. Gorgeous piece of work!

And excellent, atmospheric piece that looks at family trauma, memory, abuse, friendship, and coming of age in a skillfully written play populated by engaging characters. The multiple actors portraying different versions of the same characters is a deftly used device here to explore how memory distorts truth and also the hypothetical imaginings we project onto those we have run away from or haven't seen for a long while. I can imagine an aesthetically rich production of this play which begs to be seen on its feet!

With a perfect wilderness-gothic atmosphere and an absorbing mystery, BLACK BEAR ISLANDS keeps its audience uneasy while also getting plenty of laughs from unexpected places. The tension is rich and the interplay between "idyllic" past and bleak present is perfect - An attentive audience member can put together the puzzle pieces that are being laid out in both timelines, or sit back and let the play take them for a thrilling ride. The best twists are the ones that both feel inevitable and reshape the way you've been viewing the story, and this play pulls off a stellar one.

A crackling, propulsive, eerie mystery tale with some wonderfully theatrical, magical touches. Its 120 pages practically flew by, so eager was I to know where things were headed and uncover the secrets of the island. I could see it all clearly in my head, but would love to see it come to life onstage!

By turns both hilarious and haunting, Myers has crafted a deft mystery whose layers slowly coax the audience along. The play captures the tension of being trapped by a creature that has developed it’s own twisted vision of who you are - a fear that women who have been pursued know all too well. Looking forward to seeing it in performance.
