  • Dan West: Last Laugh

A Tale of Two Stand-Ups. Jackie is an aging borscht belt comic who is feeling his mortality and seeking to pass on the legacy he never quite established. Jennifer is more worried about impressing the scout from SNL who is rumored to be in attendance. Will either of them find their peace before it is time for Jennifer or go onstage? A profoundly humorous and heartfelt piece about the business of comedy, unrealized dreams, and redemption.

  • James Binz: Last Laugh

Borscht belt comic meets SNL comedian daughter for the first time. Norkin lays in touches of sadness, profound thought and deep significance with an overall seasoning of funny. Very well written and a powerful story well told. A glorious opportunity for a senior actor and a young comic actress.

  • Izolda Trakhtenberg: Last Laugh

This play is touching, funny, and profound. What do you owe to someone who was too scared to be there for you as a child? Are your core strengths and talents inherited? These two comics grapple with the answers.

I laughed but also cried. This is a special piece, and as someone who's done stand-up a little, I appreciated the fear and intoxicating qualities of trying to make it as a stand-up that Norkin shows in this play. Well done!

  • Tom Erb: Last Laugh

The pursuit of comedy success is at best a road of disappoitment and an occasional laugh. But Morey Norkin’s “Last Laugh” is a one-act play that explores the complexities of personal history and the pursuit of comedic success. Through the characters of Jackie and Jennifer, Norkin delivers a story that is both humorous and heartfelt, with dialogue that captures the essence of human connection. The theme of one’s past and the quest for recognition in the challenging world of stand-up comedy are handled with sensitivity and wit, making this play a memorable and impactful piece of theatre.

  • Aly Kantor: Last Laugh

This delicious, specific one-act is both heartfelt and hilarious, delivering emotion and theatricality with the concise intentionality of the best tight fives. Despite their ample flaws, I fell in love with both characters immediately and found myself deeply invested in learning their stories. Morey did a fantastic job setting up the stakes so that the final monologues came with an additional air of tension, and the final, sweet reversal was a pitch-perfect conclusion to one legacy (and, perhaps, the beginning of another). This piece has the power to both enlighten and entertain - great work...

Morey Norkin hits all the right comedic notes with his touching portrayal of familial relationships lost and found with LAST LAUGH. Both characters are believable and unique, yet somehow Morey's dialogue ensures that there is no mistaking their connection. And witty dialogue at that! I would love to see this staged. Both audiences and actors alike would have a blast! Great piece of work.

This is the first of hopefully many Morey Norkin pieces I'll pick up! Norkin's dialogue in this two-hander is incredibly clever, two comics (one at the start of her life, the other at the end of his) meeting in sort of a limbo between optimism and cynicism in the dressing room right before Ms. Jennifer Rasmussen's shot to perform for an SNL scout. This piece reminded me of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and would be a joy to see performed live! Comedy with a melancholy twinge always hits me in the right place.

This is a remarkable piece of work. Funny, heartfelt, and authentic, "Last Laugh" is a piece worth reading and seeing. I am blown away by Norkin's care for these two characters and his ability to create real dramatic tension through comedy. It's inventive and well-woven into a solid play and I would pay money to see it. Truly excellent work!
