Benton brings the subject to the forefront in a real human way, even with the puppets. Not everyone can connect to other humans and face their own grief and pain. He made me cry, which is a good thing.

It's tempting to joke that there's always a fine line between puppetry and suicide, but—I resist it. Here, it'd be a disservice, despite those 2 eye-catching key words. This play manages to tilt grief into comedy and then back out again into something really beautiful in just a few, short minutes. An elegant character study that speaks volumes about the importance of not giving up on someone who is suffering.

Sometimes we need to just laugh in the face of grief, and what I can absolutely say about Brenton Kniess' PECULIAR PUPPETS OF PHILIP PLATT is this play made me feel for a tragic loss AND I laughed a bunch. I've never quite thought about puppet anatomy the way Brenton has made me consider it and now I doubt I'll be able to unsee it. Watch the video of this performance if you can, the puppet actors especially gave strong comedic performances of Brenton's words!

I finally got round to the Peculiar Puppets. I really enjoyed this play and found it very original as I've never heard a similar story before. Normally I read the scripts but this time I made the most of the video attached so I could sit back and watch the show. Thank you Brenton.

A compelling comedy/drama loaded with a lot of heart, laughs, and sweet moments. Brenton Kniess does a great job of balancing a variety of different genres, creating compelling characters, and leaving moments that stick with you. Excellent work!

Puppets are magical. This play pits the power of puppetry against the power of grief. Here we see how artists feel deeply and often forget to vent properly. Brenton Kniess gives us a puppet show to remember.

Don't expect any "pretentious marionettes" in this lovely short play! Brenton Kniess cleverly juxtaposes good and bad, innocence and crudity, reality and make-believe through a cathartic conversation Philip has with his two honest and reliable sidekicks. Bravo.

Not only is this place rich for original design and character development when it comes to the two puppet characters, but it is super therapeutic. I love the definition of "good" being a beginning. When we are stuck in a dark cloud of emotion, we don't even want to bother with the tiny rays of light. Because that light is still surrounded by so much darkness. But these wise puppets can see beyond all that and more.
