  • Nora Louise Syran: You May Have 6

"You May Have 6" is about a man facing the consequences of his actions -or lack of them- in his lifetime, in his afterlife. He is trapped in a half-life of his own choosing with 6 lives who "don’t revolve around HIM." It's a little like Dickens' Scrooge for this century. There's a sense of epiphany... but it's open ended enough to leave an audience with plenty to talk about. Bravo. A Divine Comedy.

So excited to discover that YOU MAY HAVE 6 will receive its world premiere this year! And no surprise since this is a deliciously dark and superbly funny comedy about a self-absorbed man forced to make amends in the afterlife. I mean what's the point...? but that IS the point. There's a sucker dies every minute. Exceptional dialogue, fully realized highly comedic characters, and some fantastic otherworldly world building. This play is hella good!

They say that good stories arise when you visit trouble upon your characters. In DC Cathro's after-life doorslammer, "You May Have 6," Roger quickly has trouble up to his chest, as he attempts to navigate his compromised relationships from his previous life and finds obstacles at every turn. What that means for audiences and readers alike is a evening of vicarious awkwardness, inventive world building, and insightful commentary on the human experience. An excellent single setting play!

This play had me on page one! This ridiculous afterlife comedy relies on your willing suspension of disbelief, but once you're in, prepare for a character-driven ride full of physical comedy, farcical secrets, and existential questions. It's quick moving, has a strong character arc, and there's never a dull moment. I found it affecting and was surprised by how emotional I got as the play approached its climax! The set is simple, with a few fun challenges for keen designers. With that said, I hope it's 100% fictional - I'm not interested in an afterlife without my authentic cat!

I tried to stop reading this play on several occasions. The speed with which everything escalates and stays escalated. The mystery and the thoughts of what the twist could possibly be. The wonderful characters, the outlandish situation. I love this show. I want to direct this show. I want to produce this show. It's fantastic. High energy, super dark. Highly recommend.

Such a cleverly devised concept with pacing that hits the ground running!
This dark comedy gives you all the existential vibes of No Exit yet maintains its originality and suburb world-building. What a gift to actors to have such well-developed characters. This piece has something raw and authentic that makes you feel like you are in the driver's seat the whole time, eagerly waiting to see what happens next. Bravo DC!

This is such an original concept and so well executed. It is fast paced and full of physical comedy. But it also leaves you thinking, "who would be my 6 and how have I treated them in life?" We leave with hope for Roger and grateful that he will have nothing but time and the guidance of a loving mother to make him the person he should have been.

  • Steven G. Martin: You May Have 6

"You May Have 6" has a really terrific character arc for its protagonist; this full-length dark comedy could be subtitled "Education of a Selfish Asshole."

DC Cathro's skill with backstory, character development and dialogue is on full display here. I was part of a reading of this play; I'd love to see a full production.

This is a clever concept, hilariously executed. Roger - newly deceased - was able to choose 6 people to have with him in the afterlife. He chose quickly, not quite understanding what was going on, and his afterlife begins chaotically to say the least. I loved watching all the characters interact and learning who they all were in relation to each other. This is a funny, poignant play. It's sad at times, but also I found it comforting to know that in DC Cathro's universe, even after death we still have opportunities for self-improvement.

A very creative basis for a play which does not disappoint as it unfolds. Simultaneously entertaining and heartbreaking story. Makes me wonder which six I would pick!
