Homunculi! Homuncula! Homunculi! Homuncula-ha-ha-ha! I love a good mad scientist romp! This is a fun play that highlights the best tropes of the mad scientist genre while giving us a lovely spin on hostage negotiation!

Halloween good times to be had with THE ALCHEMIST’S GAMBIT. Really enjoyed Sam Heyman’s farcical take on a mad scientist, especially Traveller’s outrage at being paired with Dr. Hassenpfeffer (not the sharpest surgical tool in the draw). And to be honest I love work that contains the word homunculus! Great humor in this piece. The puns are well executed. The jokes had me laughing out loud. Bravo!

"The Alchemist's Gambit" is a wonderfully silly, over-the-top romp that's a perfect Halloween two-hander for any actors. Heyman keeps the dialogue fast and sharp as the traveler, strapped to a table, has to negotiate their way out of an unexpected brain operation by the matricidal (but not wholly unethical) Dr. Hasenpfeffer. I love this sendup of old horror movies, but it really had me at the introduction of a "comically large handsaw." Bravo!

This is why I always fly between major cities instead of drive. The last thing I need is to be strapped to table by a mad scientist with a vague European accent who’s in the mood to “experiment” and not in the sexy way.

Heyman builds an instantly fun Hammer Films meets Mel Brooks world. The negotiation between mad scientist and alchemist is a delightfully swinging pendulum. The personalities go way beyond archetypes and are insanely fun to play. And how often do you hear “homonculus” these days??? So much fun, ja!

Oh my goodness this play is a hoot! Dr. Hasenpfeffer's strict-but-slightly-askew moral code creates a wonderfully entertaining problem for the Traveler which sucks for him, but makes a funny 10 minute play for us! A fantastic send-up to the classic evil mad scientist trope, this play would be a tremendous amount of fun to bring to life. Kudos Sam!

THE ALCHEMIST'S GAMBIT it a hilarious play of dire consequences! Old meets New as a mad scientist is confronted with the knowledge that his newest "test subject" practices the ancient art of alchemy. With witty dialogue and delightful misunderstandings, we are on the edge of our seat as we find out if this Alchemist can persuade his way out of the dissection table.

Actors will have so much fun with this play!
