  • Christopher Soucy: Venus Needs Men

Not gonna lie… this one stung a little. Hilarious as all get out. But from a community theater director who put on Cuckoo’s Nest… twice. The struggle is real. This is a true gem and needs to be produced!

This ten minute play is full of non stop laughter! Greg Mandryk does wonders with this science fiction comedy that just exudes pure excitement and laughter that will make audiences fall in love with the world that Mandryk places the audience in. A phenomenal addition to any night of comedies!

    O. M. G! I laughed out loud several times reading this! Lucas is every semi-articulate, able to stand upright man in every theatre district. This is absolutely hilarious...except for how much I relate to poor Marcy...sigh...There is so much room for interp of the women of Venus and if any theatre mounts this delightful piece, please let Marcy...er, let ME audition!!!!

Before reading this hilarious spoof, I hadnt realised New Zealand is in fact on Venus. This would go down a treat at festival. Comedy at its finest.

VENUS NEEDS MEN but not for the reasons you might think. And of all the men available on Earth, the women of Venus choose poor clueless Lucas. This play is hilarious not only as a sci-fi parody, but for all the truisms about community theater. It’s hysterical to think that community theater on Venus is exactly the same as it is on Earth! I am now a Greg Mandryk fan!

So many productions across the earth struggle to find their leading man, this is not a new problem. But it seems this is a much bigger issue on Venus with its many thousands if underground theatres. Hence, Lucas finds himselves transported to this far away planet with the sole purpose to head the cast.
What I find funniest in this hilarious play is Lucas' plain acceptance of his situation! Great fun!

  • John Busser: Venus Needs Men

Absolutely one of my favorite pieces from Greg. I've seen a reading and a full production of this piece but it needs to be seen everywhere. Like a bad sci-fi movie from the 50's, Greg hits all the perfect tropes that endear us to them. The stupid names, the insane plot and best of all for theater ladies, a scarcity of men. This one is hilarious.
