12.01.24 - The best love stories contain a high element of risk. And not of storms or high speed, but real risk. The kind where hearts and souls get broken. Aly Kantor gives us a story of two such risk-takers, one, an agoraphobe out for a safe thrill that backfires when the other, hurt from his own lost race with a relationship, accepts her offer. We watch these two go back and forth, playing a game of chicken as a storm brews outside. Will lightning strike inside or out? Read it and see.

This was just terrific. A "meet cute" before a catastrophic storm? Sure, why not? Eating "phallic snacks" to begin the bonding? Of course! I absolutely loved the back and forth between the characters here. The piece is tremendously funny, of course, but there's depth here as well. And, believe it or not, honest-to-god romance! Aly's one of the few writers to make me imagine having a romantic interlude with hurricane-force winds closing in and be absolutely thrilled with the prospect. Would love to see this on stage at some point!

Wow! I absolutely fell in love! Aly Kantor brings us a lovely, sweet short of two people from extreme ends of the adventure spectrum finding middle-ground. ANY PORT IN A STORM pleases from the start with characters so relatable I was talking to my computer screen trying to add to their conversation (or maybe I have a problem?). I particularly like the phrase "It feels like I’ve got a treasure in my pocket, and the pocket’s got a hole, and I can’t stop thinking about the treasure, or the hole." Would love to see this staged!
