12.01.24 - The best love stories contain a high element of risk. And not of storms or high speed, but real risk. The kind where hearts and souls get broken. Aly Kantor gives us a story of two such risk-takers, one, an agoraphobe out for a safe thrill that backfires when the other, hurt from his own lost race with a relationship, accepts her offer. We watch these two go back and forth, playing a game of chicken as a storm brews outside. Will lightning strike inside or out? Read it and see.

This was just terrific. A "meet cute" before a catastrophic storm? Sure, why not? Eating "phallic snacks" to begin the bonding? Of course! I absolutely loved the back and forth between the characters here. The piece is tremendously funny, of course, but there's depth here as well. And, believe it or not, honest-to-god romance! Aly's one of the few writers to make me imagine having a romantic interlude with hurricane-force winds closing in and be absolutely thrilled with the prospect. Would love to see this on stage at some point!

Wow! I absolutely fell in love! Aly Kantor brings us a lovely, sweet short of two people from extreme ends of the adventure spectrum finding middle-ground. ANY PORT IN A STORM pleases from the start with characters so relatable I was talking to my computer screen trying to add to their conversation (or maybe I have a problem?). I particularly like the phrase "It feels like I’ve got a treasure in my pocket, and the pocket’s got a hole, and I can’t stop thinking about the treasure, or the hole." Would love to see this staged!

It’s amazing how much we learn about these two characters and how quickly we care about them in this sweet, charming romantic comedy from Aly Kantor. So it’s really not surprising how quickly things develop between them as the storm develops outside. At first the two seem like polar opposites, but as they reveal their fears the more connected they become. I have no doubt audiences will fall in love with these two and be rooting for them!

Any Port in a Storm is a charming, sweet, and hilarious romantic comedy. Paige and Hector have wonderful chemistry together and are well developed and their dynamic is just off the charts. This would be so lovely to see staged. Well done, Aly!

Fantastic! A romcom in miniature. Read this. Perform this.

Once the first complication towards any climax introduce itself the laughs start spitting. The pettiness and bickering between these two is hysterical. But what's gotta get done's gotta get done. I'm not saying I've been in this situation, but, well, I've been in both their shoes and, so, sigh, I get it. Jokes aside, this is a successful romantic comedy in every way, the same way any rom-com is a fantasy or porno is a laugh-riot. Connection is hard and the way Kantor navigates its difficulties is charm city.

Could there be more than one storm a'brewin' in this quirky and highly original romantic comedy? Paige and the Handyman are both layered, complex and engaging characters. I was drawn in by their dynamic and deeply concerned about how their interaction would play out. I would love to see them brought to full life on the stage.

As the perfect storm brews outside, another storm is brewing. The result is an eruption of maybe romance, maybe healing, maybe danger, and maybe, just maybe, a future will unfold. But before anything can happen, the characters have to weather all the storms. Filled with tension and high-flying anxiety, this short play is filled with surprises. The play is a treat for the actors and the audiences.

I saw this gorgeous and endearing play at the Patchwork Play Festival, and was so moved by its humor and heart. Aly Kantor has crafted a warm and moving play about two quirky characters who discover an unexpected (and very funny) romantic connection as a storm approaches. A wonderful piece for two actors, and an absolute treat for any audience.
