  • Diana Burbano: TRANSPORT

Stepping into this play is like stepping into the speeding van at its center, it grabs you at the beginning and never lets go. I knew nothing about this industry and read through the play horrified that any parent would do this to their kids, while also understanding the impulse. The character of Neela is a beautiful example of a real kid on stage. She's messy, defiant, troubled, intelligent, imaginative and filled with beauty. All the characters are complicated, not what you might think at the beginning. The play is truthful and doesn't speak down to teens. Highly recommend.

A riveting play built around a complex, and horrifying practice that I can almost guarantee you know nothing about.

Art often explores outcasts but in L.C. Bernadine's play TRANSPORT, we see an outcast created as a mother has her daughter forcibly removed in the middle of the night.

Her layered characters reveal the dark reality of an industry that's all around us. Bernadine expertly creates a road trip play that explores this industry and the emotional twists and turns entangled within it.

Was this actually best for our characters? Only a read of this play will tell you!

  • Claudia Haas: TRANSPORT

The tension starts at the beginning and Bernadine never lets up. A look at a world that exists which we prefer not to see centering on young people that exist - that their families prefer not to see. It’s a devastating look at the mental health crisis affecting teens today and a look at their few options. Smartly written and highly theatrical, Bernadine sends us on a journey where the destination remains an unknown.

A fascinating and compelling glimpse into a world that lurks beneath the world we normally see. "Transport" has a riveting set-up where decisions made by characters feel 'understandable' while also being appalling, frightening and unpredictable. Really well-written.

Very refreshing to read a script so clearly meant for the stage - compelling story, world, and characters, as well as plenty of opportunity for interesting staging and a bit of theatre magic. It's refreshing to see thought provoking content that isn't bogged down with sentimentality or triviality.
