We produced an audio play version of this script in our season 4 line up of the Gather by the Ghost Light podcast (https://www.gatherbytheghostlight.com/s4e8). In this script, John Patrick Bray gives us an eerie atmosphere, a dose of misdirection, and a play where even the set pieces are part of the cast. You immediately get a sense that things aren't what they seem and Bray lets this unfold through believable dialogue and a very creative use of set design. Highly recommended to read or produce!

I admire how this Noh-inspired , horror comedy, THE DEMON LADY functions according to its own angry illogic. Veronica and Jeremy seek shelter from a rainstorm after a tree falls on their tent, only to risk further harm from trigger-happy Dash. It seems the cranky old woman shoots folks for saying “Don’t shoot.” And there’s the wonderful conceit of the cabin windows that seem like half-closed eyes foreshadowing what’s best left unsaid. Atmospheric and weirdly hilarious. Would love to see this staged!

This is an entertaining evening of suspense with a delightful twist that would be fantastic to watch fully produced. It would also make a helluva short film. Kudos to John Patrick Bray for creating a solid, eerie urban legend.

THE DEMON LADY by John Patrick Bray is a fantastic short horror story. You should give it a listen on "Gather by the Ghostlight," and please PLEASE tell me when it is being staged live because I would love to see that set in action!

Novice campers stumble upon a cabin in the woods. Creepiness ensues, but that creepiness comes from an unexpected source. Scary good fun for audiences, great characters for actors, and a real challenge for scenic designers. This will easily be the hit of any horror themed festival!

I have just had the pleasure of hearing a wonderful production of this play on the Gather by the Ghost Light podcast, brought to life superbly.
Bray gives us a genuinely horrifying short, starting with the inevitable and unprepared couple camping in the woods, but what follows is a series of twists and turns which will have you shaking in the storm.
The ending is inspired! Great!

When the weather turns bad and the wilderness betrays you, a creepy cabin in the woods might be your only refuge. The thing is… people who live in seclusion usually have a reason.

The Demon Lady has a good one!

Bray provides a delicious fete of tropes, twists, and terror that keeps us on the edge of our seats making wrong guesses about what will happen next!
The atmosphere is palpable in its creepy, creaky dampness. Underneath everything there are old wounds and secrets that, when unearthed, reveal greater darkness. Much to our howling glee!

The familiar turns fantastically spooky! And just when you think you know where it's going, Bray takes us in a wild new direction. "Oh the places you'll go" indeed! Check out the audio version on GATHER BY THE GHOSTLIGHT

Creepy and full of surprises, this gripping horror story plays with many of the tropes of a couple of friends lost in woods who end up at an isolated cabin in the woods. To say anything more would be to give away the twists and turns that make this story so rich and engaging, Give it a listen on Gather by the Ghost Light.
