  • Lee R. Lawing: Submission Opportunities

Anyone who writes will find this quite funny and possibly horrifying as Cole takes all of the blood, sweat and tears that goes into the act and art of playwrighting and turns the submission process for one theatre in the UK with such outrageous rules to enter and you think, this of course, is hyperbole, but the writer knows that she's hit a little close to home than a lot of us would care to admit in our attempt to find places to submit we have all come across a few this crazy!

Too Funny! But it's funny because there is a more than just a smidgeon of truth in it. As an emerging playwright, I definitely feel the pain in this one. Kudos to Debra A. Cole for taking something so mundane in the life of a writer and making it absolutely hilarious.

  • Rebecca Dietsch: Submission Opportunities

Extremely relatable for playwrights who have multiple versions of the same play to acquiesce to highly specific submission guidelines.

I feel seen. This very funny play accurately captures the frustration arising from so many very specific submission "opportunities."

Although listed as a comic satire, Deb Cole has written a most horrendously accurate account of what playwrights face on the day to day scramble to find places to send to. It's comic genius is what it is. And the best part? You just KNOW their are playwrights out there who are currently trying to craft a 98 word monologue with no verbs and a 27 second pause. Read the play to find out why. Better yet, produce this sucker.

I came for the title and stayed for the outrageously laugh-out-loud stipulations in Deb Cole's "guidelines" that leave her eager playwriting characters deflated and a little depressed. Below the comic surface, there is so much truth to critically unpack here, and it should be required viewing at playwriting seminars and forums. Thanks for the brilliant comedy, Deb!

  • Daniel Prillaman: Submission Opportunities

A troublingly accurate, thankfully hilarious snapshot of the living insanity that is playwriting in the modern world. We make art for ourselves, but in the hope it will be shared and seen. To what lengths will we go to achieve that? What prompts?

    I guess it depends.

Truly brilliant! Hilarious and painfully appropriate given the rigors of the assignment. Brava!

Laugh out loud is the pinacle message of this wonderfully witty (and insightful) piece into the plight of the playwright. Deb has capture the essence of what it is to suffer through trying to get your work out there. As with all of her plays, the dialogue is snappy and witty, the characters are relatable (pariticularly for fellow creatives) and the end gives you an especially big giggle! Congratulations Deb! Its a brilliantly funny piece!

This one made me giggle! I especially loved the last line. I felt myself being one of the characters adding up all the instructions till I reached the point I personally had to 'check out of the challenge!". Nice work!
