Recommendations of Submission Opportunities

  • Adam Richter: Submission Opportunities

This is a perfect take on the absurdity of a recent 28 Plays Later Prompt, but it works beyond that exercise by giving us a story with which all writers can identify. "Submission Opportunities" is a hilarious satire of the unpleasant side of the creative business: Actually finding places to take your work. Bravo, Debra Cole!

Too funny and too true! Makes me wonder if the good people who call for submissions would get this. I hope Deb Cole will test the waters with this one some day.

This short play stands for everything I hate about submissions! Especially fees! Debra has nailed the frustration of these playwrights perfectly, I feel for each one individually and collectively, for this brief must be nigh on impossible. (BTW the brief was real, strewth!) Best of luck to any playwright who attempts this brief!
    Great fun!

This is definitely one of those "it's funny because it's true" moments! I'm almost (almost!) tempted to try to write something to fill the crazy, impossible brief these three playwrights face. Makes me smile just to think about it.

If you’re a playwright and you don’t know anybody in this play, you ARE somebody in this play. The vitriol toward submission fees, the absurd specificity of submission guidelines — the NETFLIX! Submission Opportunities will make you feel seen.

Ha! I so felt like I was at the table with these 3 writers! Very funny, relatable and a killer final line!
