  • Abhisek Bhattacharya: Come Back Right

Aly Kantor's "Come Back Right" is a brilliant, imaginative, and surrealist play. Aly repeatedly serves the same scene but with different conflicts and outcomes each time. Aly magically weaves a fantastic supernatural horror story around the mundane premise of a mad scientist bringing back somebody from beyond death. The actors would have a field day, and the play would continue to haunt the audience for quite some time.

  • John Busser: Come Back Right

An imaginative take (or takes as it turns out) of Frankenstein, as Aly Kantor gives us a number of mini scenes that all have their own unique look at the consequences of bringing the dead back to life. I loved the multiple choices presented here and each was as valid as the next. What a fun experiment for two actresses to be able to pull off.

  • Ryan M. Bultrowicz: Come Back Right

An absolutely magnificent surrealist horror tragicomedy (that should be enough to get you to check this out) centered around love and guilt. Kantor's ability to swiftly leverage the supernatural to explore raw fragments of the human experience is deftly captivating. This would make a fantastic addition to any theatre's short play festival lineup!

  • Evan Baughfman: Come Back Right

A darkly funny and entertaining spin on “Frankenstein”! A truly twisted ten minutes!

  • Morey Norkin: Come Back Right

Mad scientist or not, would you try to bring back the dead if you thought you could? And how might that play out? Aly Kantor provides some insight as a scene is replayed with various results: comic, haunting (as in spooky), and haunting (as in lingering in the memory). It’s this last result that has the greatest effect. This is a play that will linger in your memory long after you read or see it.

If you read only one short Zombie/Frankenstein/Demon Possession/Lesbian Romance/Mental Health Drama/Comedy/Thriller this year, make it Aly Kantor's Come Back Right. Its thoroughly entertaining blackout scenes wittily rewind and remix to play with different horror tropes, all while telling a real and touching story about loss and fear and doubt. A great ride.

Mary Shelley is dead. Or is she? Perhaps Aly Kantor has robbed her grave and stolen her essence through completely legitimate means. How else can she have crafted and tinkered into life this dark (and genuinely gut-busting), little dead body horror? Or is it a deal she's etched out with one of the old gods? An eldritch, looming cosmic entity skilled in the art of playwriting? My theory? It just comes naturally. She is that god herself. And "Come Back Right" is yet another small piece of her brilliance. Perfection.

I love how this is framed. A horror play hidden within a David Ives style comedy. Sneaky! And absolutely brilliant. There are so many things to dissect with this piece, pun intended! A perfect play for your Halloween program...or a sneaky surprise on a "regular" night of theatre! But really, there is more to this than just an ode to Mary Shelley. I am very impressed.
