Recommendations of When in Rome

  • Brent Alles: When in Rome

I was laughing already reading the character names, and the rest of the 10-minute didn't disappoint. A farce/spoof that definitely would be comfortable in the halls of Mel Brooks or Monty Python, take your pick. Very funny 10-minute!

Oh, my God. I didn’t get through the list of characters before I was laughing out loud. Morey Norkin, the master of hilarious, witty shorts, has done it again! The zingers never stop in this play. Clever, clever, clever! My highest recommendation!

  • Cam Eickmeyer: When in Rome

I was chuckling from page 1 and never stopped. I'm such a nerd that "However, I think you should know there are rarely two equal sides, Isosceles" slayed me like a prisoner in the arena. This play is smartly crafted, hilarious and would be a blast for the actors to showcase.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: When in Rome

This play opens with a Little Caesar’s joke, and then quickly devolves into an Ancient Roman Jerry Springer episode- but with more highbrow jokes. (The Bentsen quote caught me off guard and was delightful!) The crowd’s reactions all along the way - sometimes hesitant, as they’re unsure what reaction would be appropriate in some moments - add an extra layer of silliness. This would be a fun, high-energy addition to any short play festival.

After reading the character list, I knew I had to read the play immediately. I then immediately reread it because I suspected I missed some jokes (I did! I did! I did miss some jokes!) We all need a burst of silly in our days. Do yourself a favor, and get your silly dose here (and come back for a booster.) I am already jealous of the actors who will get to play these roles.

  • John Minigan: When in Rome

In a script worthy of Punnus Maximus, Norkin deftly creates a hilarious rendering of life, death, sex, and maybe the real cause of the fall of the Roman Empire in a mere ten minutes.
Produce this play! You'll be gladiator you did!
    Sorry.
    Appia you did!
Sorry. But the wordplay in this short is that infectious!

As usual Norkin had me snorting from the first line to the last. With his "I see what you did there" anachronistic quips and geometrical jibes and plenty more. Clever and fun!

Super-fun and very funny ten-minute play set in ancient Rome. Actors and audiences would have a blast with this!

Morey Norkin writes more jokes and humorous pop-culture references than I could count in this engaging ten minute play. Non-stop laughs. A great spoof that any audience member will enjoy!

A veritable laugh fest. Most jokes are a 1-2 punch, Morey gives us a 1-50 punch with no time between jokes to catch your breath. A delightful play in words that never stops playing.
