What a delight! A closed-minded scientist and his more open intern seek the ancient wisdom of the Shoebill Stork in this short, but only one appreciates it. I love the back and forths between the characters, and the ending is a satisfying surprise.

Intern Nirmal is my favorite! The exchanges between Dr. Bill and Intern Nirmal are both amusing and insightful. We all know a Dr. Bill type! The clever dialogue and the quest for wisdom from a giant bird are packed with humor and laugh-out-loud moments. This story leaves us feeling wiser, more enlightened, and happier. The ending is wonderfully eerie, too. Produce this!

Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn’s play, The Shoebill Stork, is intriguing, funny and fascinating. I had no idea where it was going, but totally enjoyed the ride. This play takes you to places you’ve probably never been before. And aside from being truly original- it’s quite enjoyable! Read it, you’ll see what I mean!

The Shoebill Stork tries to offer wisdom, but Dr. Bill is too dense to hear it. This is a riotous comedy filled with witty lines and delicious revelation of character and possessed of a most satisfying ending.

We should all live more like Intern Nirmal. What a fun show with great dialogue and a real treat for the adventurous costumer. And what a great ending! I want to see this produced.

This is so. much. fun. With a fantastic twist. Super clever treatment of the titular bird - from its construction to it dialogue delivery to its behavior throughout. A truly theatrical romp. Take me to the stone circle! (Was I the only one hearing Dr. Bill's voice as a whispered British drawl on expedition? :)

What a singularly theatrical treat! I had to google Shoebill Storks, and never have I seen a creature that looked more like a mythical, wisdom-spewing oracle! Though this play is silly and loaded with laugh-out-loud exchanges, I'm sure many audience members will come away with the wisdom that is deftly seeded into every adage and interaction, from the difference between speech and communication to the difference between wisdom and advice. The piece always feels light and never didactic, moving efficiently toward a VERY satisfying conclusion! It's tight, quick, clever, and would excite any designer lucky enough to work on it!

I was hooked from the hilarious first two lines of this play (well, honestly I was hooked by that great title). The character dynamics are really fun and the philosophical musings of the stork paired with the witty fast-paced dialogue of our two wisdom seekers (and the seamless blending of the two) is incredibly satisfying to read - but not as satisfying as that ending! This would absolutely crush it front of an audience, no doubts in my mind.

Quick, witty, and super tight comedy! Great characters that could be played by all ages. And the ending comes at you quick and will knock you off your feet!

I’m a sucker for a script that invites any director attempting to stage it to bring a creative flourish to the table. I’d love to see this one produced.
