You think this play is going in one direction and then it really shocks you. Kantor brilliantly tackles such a taboo subject with characters that I found myself connecting with. This is such a tender and romantic short play. I'd love to know what happens next for these characters but Kantor concludes this piece in a really satisfying way. A great example of lulling your audience into a seemingly mundane situation and then pulling the rug out from under them. This would be such a fun play to direct.

12.01.24 - I didn't know what to expect from this play, although Aly Kantor's character descriptions should have provided some insight. (Loved the "human keep out sign" and a "human welcome mat" sobriquets). This went dark quickly but dark in a twisted, humorous way that I loved. What a story the two characters present us with. No ordinary meet-cute this, I was fascinated with the possibilities and although one character may provide payoff to the other soon, I was clamoring for more. Terrific.

Your stomach may churn, your heart may beat a little bit faster, maybe you’ll want to run for the hills! But don’t — Aly Kantor’s aptly named Meat Cute is well worth the risk. A meet cute of a darker variety, this play is willing to go to dark places on the way to its surprisingly sweet conclusion. An excellent short play for those with discerning tastes.
