I'd agree with Dave Patton wholeheartedly. I'd go out of my way to read a shopping list scribbled by Vivian C Lermond. She takes the ingredients and puts her creative spin on everything. Her work is always completely original, layered with the unexpected and an absolute joy to read. I am chuffed to divulge that I gave her the writing prompt that inspired her to produce this wee gem. Bragging aside, she created another cracker.

In a very short amount of time Lermond creates a character who we don't even see that is so easy to connect to it makes you smile to hear of the changes they've made in just two years. Well done.

How many times do you run into someone you knew and wonder 'how did they get here from there'? In a short span of time, we learn who Gerry was and see who he is now and wonder, like Mitch, about that space in time. Do others think the same of us? Did he change? This short well-written piece, raises so many questions that it will stay with you. Congrats, Vivian Lermond.

In two minutes, Vivian Lermond makes you want to see the last two years of the journey of old Geeky Gerry. Here we see the journey completed (up to this point, that is), but In listening to Mitch spin you Gerry's pre-transformation image, you are left longing to know what twists and turns Gerry took to be the man he is now. Everyone's life path has such twists, as Vivian makes clear. And in only 5 short paragraphs. That's amazing writing.

A chance encounter between former neighbors leads to a poignant reflection on the changes two years can bring. This saga of Gerry's renaissance is most heartening.

Okay...I admit...I'm a fan. Whether it's one of her complex murder mysteries, or a seemingly simple dialogue beteween two 'ordinary-everyday' characters, or in this case what, at first take, appears to be a tale of a chance encounter, Lermond's characters are rarely what we presume them to be at first read. Kinda like one of those restorers peeling away the layers of an old master...and then voilà!

A good monologue, it seems to me, needs to be able to stand on its own. Complete, self contained, whole. There’s an art to it.
This is what Ms Lermond gives us here. An up beat and snappy monologue that is self contained and independent of what (may) surround it.
    Very enjoyable!
