  • Jonathan Cook: Sacrifice

What a fun premise! This dark comedy makes you think it's going one way, then it goes another, then it gives you an ending that is truly satisfying. Jacquelyn has a talent for crafting clever stories and, in this case, she gives us humor and horror all wrapped into a tidy play. Brilliant work and highly recommended!

Jacquelyn Priskorn's "Sacrifice" has dark comedic dialogue that shines, crafting sharp characters. The clever exchanges between the Sacrifice and the Acolytes create a humorous, scornful tone that keenly contrasts with the gruesome finale. Add that to a super enjoyable read with balanced wit and horror, revealed through a shocking, fun twist. If you like a play where you think you know what's going to happen and suddenly you have the rug pulled out from under you, well, this is IT!

Okay, this is FUN. I love it when a semantic loophole gets a character out of hot water, even if the water was only ever tepid at best! The play itself is loaded with shocking, silly, and smart humor that comes fast and furious from beginning to end - a VERY dense and efficient comedy, considering the page count! The twist (like the truth) is utterly delicious, with a spectacular moment of highly theatrical chaos that, while brilliantly left to the audience's imagination, designers will have a blast figuring out! A fun, messy, and very smart horror-comedy!

With the disclaimer that I am 100% in the target audience for this play (like, really…), let me say that nothing delights me more than some mixture of blood, horrific cults, and surprisingly intense etymological debate. Look, when you’re making a sacrifice, semantics is actually very important. I will say nothing more, suffice it to say that if you only read one short play today, make it this. Pitch-perfect horror-comedy. You won’t find better than this.

I thought I knew where SACRIFICE was heading and then I obviously didn't. Jacqui Floyd-Priskorn crafts a short horror story with humor that glides along until you're jerked into the uncanny alleyway of the macabre frequented by Lovecraft or Poe. Instant classic. So much fun.

Gorgeous, Gross and riveting all in one go! The world of cults is one I don't know much about but the debates over sacrifice and what being a follower means is a wonderfully intriguing conversation sprinkled with giggly moments that Jacquie is an expert at. But then, just as you think you know where this is going she provides a gorgeously timed and brilliantly constructed twist that will have audiences going 'wait, what?' It will shock, entertain and captivate in equal measure, basically a 'Floyd-Priskorn Special'!

Ok. Stop what you're doing and read this play. I loved it. So good! More please.

That was...odd? Very funny take on a horror classic situation. Nice twist in the end. This will be a great bit of fun on stage somewhere. Terrific and natural dialogue with a great story. Brava!

I love a classic horror comedy and this is one of the best. It has everything, the wit, the comedy, the one-up, and a massive ending that will leave the audience with a rush. If you're looking for a show to anchor a night of horrific laughs, this is it.

Leave it to Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn to find the overlap between “good clean fun” and “ritualistic demon worship”. I loved the bantering acolytes and the twist at the end is simply delicious!
