  • Peter Anthony Fields: Jacquie Floyd Sent Me

Definitely a page-turner that will be even more dynamic on the stage. Terrific character development, dialogue that doesn't waste time, and ever increasing tension are the hallmarks of this suspense thriller. Lots of ground is covered in just 12 pages. Excellent work, Rachel Feeny-Williams. I'm looking forward to reading your other works.

Tension and conflict from the outset. Rachel keeps us guessing. Move over, Philip Marlowe.

What a superlative and suspenseful noir saga, full of twists and reveals and characters who are not what they seem. It also has an engaging whiff of comedy. And if there's a lesson to be learned, it's don't mess with Jacquie Floyd.

Jacquie Floyd Sent Me by Rachel Feeny-Williams packs an O Henry surprise punch. From the everyday worries of a couple in a witness protection program as the truth wills out. Definitely a beguiling entertainment.

Certainly a fun romp! I get the sneaking suspicion that there is more going on here than meets the eye? Great scene work and special characters. A real joy to read. Brava

I have to say this has to be produced somewhere! “Jacquie Floyd Sent Me” was a thrill to read with its delightful suspense. Feeny-Williams spins a tale that captures the tension of a couple in witness protection, and the precise dialogue is real and urgent. I love the characters, the minimalist approach, and the shifts from light-hearted to menacing. Wow, what a fun read!

There’s something to be said for the NPX headcanon we’re slowly and collectively forming. I eat cats (I do not eat cats), Jacquie Floyd might be a gangster (she is probably not…I won’t take my chances), Chris Plumridge has WAY too much insight into all of us. I adore how humbling this place is, and that so much good-natured frivolity is instrumental in the creation of fun, new plays. RFWs latest crime short is taut and dripping with dread. It’s great stuff, but the meta makes it extra special.

With a title like this (and a friend like Jacquie), there was no way I WOULDN'T read this tidy little thriller from Rachel Feeny-Williams. And boy am I glad i did. This has all the best elements of great noir fiction with a touch of Hitchcock thrown in for good measure. All the dialogue rhythms feel spot on and I just KNEW that Jacquie Floyd would be dealing out justice with a drink in one hand, and an ether-soaked cloth in the other. Great fun from Rachel, who seems to know a bit too much about crime...

The good news is that, even if you're not an NPX regular, you'll still be able to enjoy Jacquie Floyd Sent Me, although you may be puzzled by the titular shout out. Twists and turns and all sorts of revelations abound in this delightful little caper. If your background includes a few community theatre productions of Agatha Christie thrillers (personally, I played Sargeant Trotter in what may be the worst production of Mousetrap ever staged), this may strike a nostalgic chord or two.

A CLASSIC RACHEL FEENY-WILLIAMS CRIME DRAMA that will DELIGHT audiences! Maybe it's the fact that the detective has such a great last name, or the fact that the Floyd family names feels familiar somehow... but I love how FEENY-WILLIAMS' brain works. Are we sure she isn't an actual detective for her day job???? GREAT FUN FOR THE STAGE!
