  • Nora Louise Syran: Now We Are a Hundred

I've always been fascinated by all things One Hundred Acre Wood and the real life story behind it all so I was delighted to come across this play. It's a lovely piece with plenty of "weight to any whimsy" which Tennant weaves throughout. So many details which a designer will have a ball translating to the stage: tea, the "silly old Bear," WWII, the titles... Brava! Great title! (Oct 24, 2024)

  • Paul Donnelly: Now We Are a Hundred

A poignant and sometimes harrowing look at the cost paid by a real young man for his father's popular fictionalized account of his childhood. The abandonment of the real young man takes a toll, as does his service in the Second World War. Milne seems to realize a little, but perhaps not quite enough, about the harm he has done. That these superbly drawn characters have real life models only adds to the depth and resonance of the narrative.

  • Morey Norkin: Now We Are a Hundred

A story that has brought joy to millions of children had a far less positive effect on the child who inspired it. Alaina Tennant tells the story of Christopher Robin Milne and his relationship with his parents and the famous story in beautiful and heartbreaking fashion. In what I consider to be the climactic moment, the tension between father and son was so intense it took my breath away! This is absolutely ready to be staged!

  • Christopher Soucy: Now We Are a Hundred

Poignant, relevant, and nostalgic, NOW WE ARE A HUNDRED is a love story to the children we were and the adults we become. Alaina Tennant explores the tumultuous world of children whose lives were co-opted by exploitive parents. Even if one’s parents didn’t turn them into literary icons, it’s easy to sympathize with carrying a parent’s oppressive dreams while attempting to become your own person.

  • Baylee Shlichtman: Now We Are a Hundred

A beautiful piece about lost childhoods and the struggle to be gracious with your child self when you've been brought up in the spotlight. It saddened me how much Christopher's circumstances in the 1940s mirrored those of children exploited by their influencer parents in the digital age today. Even so, each of these characters, including Christopher's father, are rendered with such grace. The bittersweet note the piece ends on is just perfect.

  • James Kelsey Nelson: Now We Are a Hundred

A well-researched, thoughtful, and empathetic piece that explores the repercussions of author A.A.Milne using his son as his muse. It simultaneously tells a deeper and more impactful story of war trauma and the messy complexities of parenthood. There's so much depth in the piece, but it's all gently and sensitively discovered as it progresses. Delightful!

  • Christopher Plumridge: Now We Are a Hundred

Alaina presents us such a deep, heartfelt and one feels, accurate account of the taut relationship between A.A.Milne and his son Christopher Robin.
I particularly admire the character analysis the playwright specifies for each of the three roles, which clearly show how this wonderful play should be performed, keeping loyal to the story and the characters. I also like the sweet scene titles, wouldn't it be nice to have each shown on the stage!
A very good full length play with great, real, roles.

Oh and there is a reason I'm called Christopher....
