  • John Busser: Most Outstanding Minority Girl

11.16.24 - Okay, this was shockingly funny as well as eye-opening. Watching the three characters chase their tails as they tried to figure out who's who and what's what and where do the two overlap in some insane Venn diagram of inclusivity was hilarious. And I would have done a spit take if I was drinking during the "Kobayoshi Maru." "Is that an Asian student?" exchange. Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos (funny, she doesn't look like a McBurnette-Andronicos) has written a corker here.

  • James Binz: Most Outstanding Minority Girl

Challenging story. This well written piece illustrates the folly of not being serious about DEI. This happens all over the US these days and in many different areas. Without input from gender, ethnic, disabled, etc. peoples - we get a well intentioned, but well off the mark situation. Dark Comedy and twisty significance. Brava. 10/18/2024

A pitch-perfect and viscerally unnerving satire of academia and race in modern America. Though Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos takes aim at the world of education (and hits her mark perfectly), anyone who's dealt with institutions of any kind will recognize the characters, the situation and the absurd way they handle it.
This is what great satire strives to be: funny and uncomfortable.

  • Steven G. Martin: Most Outstanding Minority Girl

This satire stings like a squeeze of lemon juice in the eye. It's also funny as well-meaning people show just how clueless they are. And the one good, thought-provoking question ends the play and goes unanswered. Excellent satire by Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos. [24/09/29]

  • Jessie Salsbury: Most Outstanding Minority Girl

I had the opportunity to see this at the Midwest Dramatist Center Conference 2024. This play explores White academia and the ironies that happen when those of the global majority are being discussed but not being included. A sharp, funny, real, uncomfortable script that was well received by the audience.

  • Scott Sickles: Most Outstanding Minority Girl

As a Korean American with a German surname, I felt this play in my Mixed BIPOC DNA!

Anyone who has worked in admin will recognize the dynamics and tenor of this meeting, and I imagine anyone who has worked in educational admin on diversity issues will be outright triggered! McBurnette-Andronicos gives us a discussion about "minority" identities that's equal parts hilarious, thorough, and truthful.

Delightfully cringy roles in a play that flies by! You might even get out of the meeting by five!

I think it was the film critic/film historian David Thompson who said that a good satirist was like a demolition expert. Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos has lobbed a hand grenade at a wrong-headed institution with "Most Outstanding Minority Girl". The three characters are solid, the dialogue stings. This hand grenade, however, won't destroy its intended mark. Yet damage will be done. And felt!

Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos’ Most Outstanding Minority Girl lets the audience be a fly on the wall during an absurdly hilarious faculty meeting, a scenario the playwright navigates with deft comic craft and far more self awareness than the characters possess. I was in awe of this play’s joke density and how many punchlines it fit into ten minutes. Bravo, playwright! (9/28/24)

Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos' is a wickedly funny and biting satire of when our good intentions go to far. Cannot recomment this enough. It's brilliant

  • Philip Middleton Williams: Most Outstanding Minority Girl

This is what happens when trying to be politically correct runs headlong into common sense. Something's gotta give, and the good intentions of these teachers becomes a farce of pretzel logic. Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos deftly navigates these hazards without rancor or meanness, and that makes it all the more truthful and funny. (9/28/24)
