  • Debra A. Cole: Dead Mother

This short and creepy play will be a FEAST for a talented actor! If the language doesn't suck the audience in... it will be the pacing that will have them at the edges of their seats. DELICIOUS FUN!

  • Aly Kantor: Dead Mother

This is an eerie direct-address monologue loaded with gorgeous poetic language and elegant turns of phrase that will stick with you long beyond the final breaking of the glass! The playwright is a master of misdirection, leaving you to wonder if you can trust this adled storyteller, or if there is more to the story of mom's death that we aren't hearing. It has a consistent frenetic energy that makes audiences lean forward to take in more delicious details as they decide the truth for themselves!

The torment the son is going through leaps off the page. What a marvelous piece for any actor to sink their teeth into. Is it fantasy? Is it madness? We teeter with the speaker, never really knowing which one it is. Well cone.

The pacing, the language and the creepiness that comes in like a fog make "Dead Mother" an outstanding solo piece. The nods to Albert Camus are perfectly executed and add both layers and suspense to the torment that the speaker goes through. I would love to see this on a stage. Actors wold have a ball with the language and the physicality of the role.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Dead Mother

Whoa. This monologue reads like poetry, with the stellar imagery and the repetition - Which only makes it spookier, somehow? What a gift this monologue is for an actor: You get to show a whole range of emotion and even have things to do with your hands! Creepy in the best way.

A fantastic monologue that grips you from the get go. Ken Love gives us a character in the throes of tragedy, dangling precariously over the edge of sanity. A tour de force for any actor to tackle.

  • Ryan Kaminski: Dead Mother

10/27/2025 - A gripping short piece where we get the sense throughout that things may not be what they seem. The narrator isn't all that reliable which makes the ending all that more shocking when the truth is revealed. This would be a dream role for any actor to play. Horror at its finest!

The uncertainty and unreliability of the narrator, combined with the lyrical language are reminiscent of the suspense of an Edgar Allan Poe story. Super suspenseful one-man short.

A noir horror about loss and guilt. With hints of PSYCHO and Poe. We aren't sure how much we can trust the speaker and his view of reality. A powerful piece for a solo performer.
