Horror comics, "Tales From the Cript". David Hilder's "An Awkward Conversation on the Way to the Ice Dispenser" is as chilling as the frigid winter wind that blows through the story. As horrifying to hear as it will be to see.

The chilling nature of David Hilder's play sneaks up on you like it sneaks up on its protagonist, until all at once it overwhelms you and leaves you with your blood running cold. "An Awkward Conversation on the Way to the Ice Dispenser" is a compact, scary short.

Having lived in the area where this play takes place, the horror is amplified by the realization that what David Hilder conveys in this short and all-too-scary story could be the real tale. The spare use of words and well-depicted imagery makes it come alive, and this reader in hot and humid Florida got real shivering chills.

This short, scary play feels like either the opening scene or the closing scene of a very good horror story. This one takes less than ten minutes to be totally unnerving.

Terrifying. The contrast between so many words and so few sets a haunting pace in this chilling short play. Brilliant.

That shiver you feel isn't from just the wintry wind, it's the dread created in David Hilder's horror script. Be smart (unlike me) and avoid reading this late at night before going to bed.

This is why I don’t go out on cold nights. You don’t know who or what you’re going to run into. I’m still shivering after reading this.

Ooh! A nice creepy one! Poor Heather finds herself in a situation that feels... off, but human decency overrides her instincts, leading her to her fate. Meanwhile, the audience, knowing they're watching a horror story, can only watch helplessly. I have no idea how a staged production would handle some of the effects, but I'd love to see someone take a crack at it.

The chill is not from the ice cold weather! A wonderfully creepy, horror short that is sure to captivate the audience. The long list of supernatural entities that could be lurking in the freezing cold dead of night is ripe for the picking as culprits in this play.
