  • Vince Gatton: This is All Very Normal

“Witty people in horrible situations” is 100% my jam, and Mathew Green plays right into that sweet spot here. Alice and Mel’s sibling tensions, banter, and well-lived-in love are familiar and disarming, leaving you fully exposed when the ominous breadcrumbs get you to where they’ve been leading. A very cool reflection on how normal can slip away from us - slowly at first, then all at once.

  • Perfectly chilling, and gorgeously constructed. There's a real depth of relationship between Mel and Alice that goes beyond the purposefully cryptic dialogue. The story here feels sad, odd, and inevitable. Terrific.

  • From the start, you know something's not right, whether it's because you read the title or because you're sensitive to subtext. The words left unsaid take up so much space in this script, leaving you to fill in the blanks...but even if you do, the world-building that subtly and deftly creeps in will come as a surprise. From the moment the outside creeps in, the embers grow, and things escalate rapidly, building to a harrowing conclusion. This feels like the middle of an epic story, and I dig it!

  • Wow... this tender two-hander between sisters will leave audiences stunned. The sister banter is genuine... the situation tragic and terrifying... and once the third characters arrives on the scene... what we thought we knew was nothing in the big picture of reality. FABULOUS!

  • When the play concludes, its final moments land like a bomb. The playwright does a good job of establishing the relationship between its two sisters before introducing a threat to them. A great example of what can be achieved in a short amount of time onstage.

  • From the outset of this tense short play we wonder why have these two very different sisters taken refuge in the woods. Even when the reason is revealed in the final minutes, we are not prepared for what comes next. Playwright Green does an expert job keeping the suspense high throughout, and he creates indelible characters with just a few brushstrokes. A perfect entry for any festival looking for a thought-provoking piece about our much-changed world.
