02/24/2026 - I had the pleasure of watching the playwright perform this powerful and insightful monologue via a Zoom performance. Julie Brandon does a fantastic job transitioning from realism to fantasy and the character she created is equally as fascinating. An absolute joy to read/view from beginning to end!

The greatest gift you can give to yourself is to help others. Of course, sometimes in helping others you're taking a serious karmic risk. For the protagonist of this monologue, those consequences will have to come later. For the time being, there is much joy! Joy and finding one's purpose. Joy in bringing others' comeuppances. The joy and knowing that something you did made at least one other person happy. Joy! Joy! Joy! This is a fun one to read aloud. May it spark joy in you as well!

Shoutout to the Etsy witches. FOR HIRE strikes a great comedic moment for the peril of job hunting and what often feels like your lucky break out of the dead ends. It's a story that's so easy to step into, almost like you've lived it yourself. "FOR HIRE" has a fantastic and clear voice for any "Charmed" audition room or class. I'd love to see more from this character and narrative.

Julie Brandon's "For Hire: A Monologue" is an apt piece for anyone who's dealt with the drudgery of having a job . . . or is still looking. It's spooky with a proper dash of wit. And that's what makes it so compelling. And it was an utter treat to hear this work read by the playwright herself. Kudos!

02.07.26 - Sometimes the best job is the one you create for yourself. The monologuist here saw a need and decided she was just the right person to fill that particular position. Even if it came with some otherworldly strings. What a fun piece for some lucky actress!

Sometimes it takes a while to discover one's true calling. But after many relatable misfires, what a calling this one proves to be. Dare I say that this is a bewitching monologue?
