  • Donald E. Baker: OLD COWBOY CHUCK: A MONOLOGUE FOR A GAY SENIOR

For many gay people, going into a nursing home full of possibly hostile strangers means having to go back into the closet. Old Cowboy Chuck did the opposite, living a closeted life--veteran, husband, father--and only coming out, pride flag waving, about the time he moved into the facility. There he is forced to endure the prejudices he'd avoided out in the world. He will get no sympathy from an uncaring administrator, but he will from anyone reading Wyndham's perfectly voiced monologue.

OLD COWBOY CHUCK: A MONOLOGUE FOR A GAY SENIOR is a powerful monologue written with such skill and compassion. Asher Wyndham crafts a complex character not often seen in theatre and shows both his struggles and his pride. I'm left thinking of Old Cowboy Chuck long after the final page.

A powerful testimony about abuse and homophobia that never ceases and the painful experience that should have never existed. Well done.

  • Robert Weibezahl: OLD COWBOY CHUCK: A MONOLOGUE FOR A GAY SENIOR

‘Old Cowboy Chuck’ deftly reminds us that issues of gender and sexuality do not necessarily fade with time, and that cruelty knows no age. Chuck’s circuitous but arresting monologue poignantly captures the rambling distraction of an elderly person, while zeroing in on the painful truths that can be hard to express.

  • Chris Gacinski: OLD COWBOY CHUCK: A MONOLOGUE FOR A GAY SENIOR

This monologue was funny, along with unique. It shines light on discrimination in retirement communities; the idea of a sweet and funny gay retiree receiving hate over who he is attracted to makes me sullen. Chuck’s humor and outlook makes him empathetic, which adds to the scripts allure. Highly recommended!

  • Nick Malakhow: OLD COWBOY CHUCK: A MONOLOGUE FOR A GAY SENIOR

This monologues spends equal time tickling your funny bone and tugging on your heartstrings. A distinct and underrepresented identity intersection in contemporary theater makes this piece feel fresh. I so appreciate that this, like Wyndham's many other pieces, goes beyond defining a character by one aspect of their identity and seeks to illuminate the experiences of someone living at a unique identity crossroad.

  • Kevin King: OLD COWBOY CHUCK: A MONOLOGUE FOR A GAY SENIOR

This is a sweet, loving depiction of a older gay man facing homophobia. It's a touching look at how LGBTQ pride can be found, and held onto, everywhere, in the face of adversity - even in nursing homes.

  • Paul Donnelly: OLD COWBOY CHUCK: A MONOLOGUE FOR A GAY SENIOR

Chuck is vivid and sympathetic and his dilemma is rendered poignantly but without self-pity. It's still chilling to see a man have to ask not to be hated in his old age.

  • Julie Zaffarano: OLD COWBOY CHUCK: A MONOLOGUE FOR A GAY SENIOR

Another true voice from Asher Wyndham. Old Cowboy Chuck is a man who wants nothing more than to be accepted and “live in peace with my pistachios.” A moving piece.

I am always astounded by the brilliance of Asher's words and inspired by everything he writes. Old Cowboy Chuck is no different. He's chronically one amazing person after another with every play he writes. Thanks for sharing your work with all of us and thank you for putting into words so many of the events that are so timely and yet timeless. Much love for Chuck!
