Expertly performed in Loved Ones Season 2, this play about uncovered family secrets and how they affect everyone in the family is a powerful story.

  • Morey Norkin: "Guten Tag, Baby!"

A memory long hidden, most likely for “the good of all concerned,” comes rushing back during a visit to a familiar place. Characters in the play are overwhelmed by the revelation and no doubt audiences will be as well. Scott Sickles has created an almost dreamlike scene with engaging characters that draw us into the retelling of a beautiful romance only to force us to wake up to a disturbing reality. Every role is a gem. Hopefully more productions are in store.

What a beautiful and amazing play. The secrets that were held in tight by that generation who felt the best way to live was to just forget the horrible and pick up the pieces and patch them back together and move forward and yet, sometimes, those pieces are not strong enough to stay together forever and can fall out in the most unexpected places. One secret which if known could have helped at least one family who were broken by default of the times.

Generational trauma... it hits hard even when those involved try to keep it silenced. This beautiful short play by SCOTT SICKLES gives seasoned actresses a chance to show true depth and range as memories flood back on darker days that found their way to the light. JUST LOVELY.

  • Paul Donnelly: "Guten Tag, Baby!"

There are memories that conjure sweet sepia-toned nostalgia and memories that scald and burn into the present. "Guten Tag, Baby" has both. Four vividly drawn characters make their way though memories that are overfamiliar and memories that offer shocking revelations. We are left to wonder how or if Vivienne will incorporate her new knowledge into her current life. This is a splendidly crafted and affecting work.

I love memory plays, and had the pleasure of seeing this performed by several strong actors at the Hindsight 2022 International New Short Play Fest last year. This is a fully realized short play, with depth, heart, and true beauty. There's a lovely sense of nostalgia, a pang of things that still do damage, and the bittersweetness of living in memories. I was touched very much by this gorgeous work.

I'm picking my jaw up off the floor after finishing this devastating memory play from Scott Sickles. He doesn't just present a situation, he makes you live it. You feel Eleanor's longing, Vivienne's shock and heartbreak, Des' wonderment. Even Armand is fully realized here even when he is only a memory. But then, the twist comes like a punch in the gut and you feel as smacked in the head as Vivienne does. Great writing as always from Scott Sickles.

In just 15 minutes this play takes as many twists and turns as the Route 66 it's set at.
I love plays which flirt with the past and bring in characters in almost ghost form, but to one character are clearly present.
Then the revelations come, hard hitting and upsetting, but love, in all its mystical ways, shines through.
I'd love to see this staged.

GUTEN TAG, BABY! is my first experience reading and watching (at Left Edge Theatre) a play by Scott Sickles. And it absolutely, without-a-doubt, no question will be the first of many! This play is powerful and moving with beautifully written characters, each with their own fully-developed story arcs. Read this play (or rent a recording of the production). Looking forward to experiencing more of this playwright's work.

Scott Sickles brilliantly crafted Guten Tag, Baby is a must read. Three generations of women embark on an incredible journey with a singular purpose it would seem. The story starts out familiar to an extent, but becomes as unpredictable as Eleanor's mind. It's brilliant and feels real. Amazing show Scott! Needs an audience.
