What an incredibly rich, beautiful piece, and all in one page. I’m in awe of Sickles and his ability to get so much love and so much history into so few words. A lovely holiday offering, stunning in it’s simplicity.

No matter how old we get -- and I'm getting up there -- we can still remember moments of connection. This moment by Scott Sickles took me back more than sixty years when my brother and I shared a room in our old house and these instances came and went so quickly and without -- at the time -- any meaning. But now, this snapshot brought back sense-memories that are embedded so deeply that all I have to do is think of that moment and I am there. Thank you, Scott.

Reading previous recommendations of "The Old Railroad," I wondered: How did Scott Sickles tell this story in just one page? Having read it, I still have the same question. This is a lovely tale of brotherhood, Christmas and family traditions. Holiday rituals are how we remember loved ones, warts and all, and "The Old Railroad" is a warm, funny reminder of that.

This short, sweet, wee piece from Scott manages to tell us so much about their relationship as it is now, thoughts on Xmas past when they were boys, and the mixed emotions their 'old fashioned' Dad still raises in them even now as adults. I loved that it ends with them building the railway and tipping their caps to Dad!

So much depth and emotion in this beautifully rendered one-minute piece. Comfort, pain, history, healing--a perfect theatrical moment.

This is a big-hearted, warm short play is about brotherhood, about acknowledging the sometimes rough parts of the past and paying tribute to it. I enjoy its affirmations, its positivity.

As the daughter of an old railroad man, I appreciate this playlet. I also loved the storytelling and Sickle's capacity to develop credible, wonderful and distinctive characters in the space of 60 seconds!

I’m a sucker for some non-toxic masculinity, and “The Old Railroad” tugged on my heartstrings in all the right ways. I am always amazed when a writer is able to pack so much emotion and backstory into a 1 minute play- but I am not surprised when that writer is Scott Sickles. Add this one to your 1 minute play OR winter holiday festival.
