Artistic Statement
I am interested in ethical and moral conundrums. I like to explore the potentials of the performer/audience relationship, to create work that is inherently theatrical yet meaningful on a personal level. I love theater because it offers unique opportunities for communication via the inherent tension and connection of the live moment. I believe theater can be used not only as a tool to represent or open up dialogue on important and controversial topics, but that the theatrical process itself can be that dialogue. When I write a play, I see it as an opportunity to spark a collaboration, to make an offering to my future collaborators. I hope to get actors and directors and designers excited about the play, and to leave room for their input and discoveries. Some of the biggest influences on my work are my improvisational and movement-based theater background, my love of Russian literature, my puppetry practice, and my passion for listening.
